GlobalCollect has appointed Huib Dekker Chief Financial Officer. Initially Senior Manager with Ernst and Young, Huib had various senior financial roles with such companies as RJ Reynolds International, Dutchtone N.V. and O2 B.V. in the Netherlands. He has held the Chief Financial Officer role at Telfort B.V., Wind- Hellas Telecommunications in Greece and most recently, the VoiceCash group of companies, including its bank in Malta. Huib Dekker holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Informatics and a Master’s degree in Business Administration and received his Chartered Public Accountant registration from the University of Amsterdam.

Calpian electronic payment processing investmented in India-based My Mobile Payments Limited through Digital Payments Processing Limited. Travel Spend Climbs to Pre-Recession Levels

Visa released its 2011 Travel Snapshot reports highlighting key spend insights from Visa account holders traveling to and from the United States, Canada, Mexico and Brazil. Visa account holders from these countries continued to increase spend on international travel-related purchases from 2010 to 2011, building momentum toward pre-recession levels. Travelers from the United States increased tourism spend on their Visa accounts by 7 percent, those from Canada by 11 percent, and Mexico by 19 percent. Most notably, travelers from Brazil increased international travel spend on their Visa accounts by 32 percent in 2011 – 43 percent of which was in the United States. Visa account holders from Brazil increased spend on travel to the United States by 41 percent, from $1.9 billion in 2010 to $2.7 billion in 2011, edging out the U.K. as the second highest total contributor to U.S. tourism revenue. Visa account holders from China increased travel spend within the United States by 61 percent, from $741 million in 2010 to $942 million in 2011.

iPayment Appoints Senior VP, General Counsel

iPayment announced the hiring of Philip J. Ragona as Senior Vice President and General Counsel. Since 2002, he served as Senior VP, General Counsel and Secretary of Atrium Corporation. From 1995 to 2002, Mr. Ragona was with the law firm of Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP in New York, with a focus on the firm’s litigation, securities and mergers and acquisitions practices. He began his legal career in 1992 at Cahill, Gordon & Reindel LLP in New York, where he focused on securities and commercial litigation. Mr. Ragona received his JD degree from Columbia University School of Law and his BA degree from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Green Dot Hires New SVP, Processing

Green Dot Corporation hired Ralph Calvano SVP, Processing. Calvano starts at the Company and will lead Green Dot’s strategic initiative to bring key elements of its transaction processing in house, thereby reducing reliance on third parties. He will also drive the ongoing strategic vision for processing, including integrating processing with other Green Dot technical environments. He was most recently with Fidelity National Information Services (FIS) as Senior VP and GM, Prepaid Solutions. In that role, he was responsible for leading all aspects of development, quality assurance, product/project management, client relations and cardholder customer service for the prepaid operations of FIS.

FIS Completes Amendment/Extension of Credit Agreement

FIS banking and payments amended to extend its existing credit agreement, including the release of collateral when investment grade credit ratings are attained. The transaction also resulted in the extension of a substantial portion of Term Loan A and revolving loan maturities from 2014 to 2017 and a reduction in borrowing costs. There was no material change to FIS’ total leverage as a result of the amendment. The credit facility totals $3.7 billion in the aggregate, including $2.1 billion of Term Loan A and $1.15 billion of revolving loan capacity that will mature in March 2017; $250 million of Term Loan A that will mature in July 2014; and $200 million of Term Loan B that will mature in July 2016.

KDDI Picks Gemalto to Implement mNFC project

Gemalto digital security was chosen by KDDI for its commercial NFC mobile services launch. Gemalto provides a one-stop service to KDDI, encompassing its Allynis Trusted Service Manager (TSM) software and UpTeq NFC high-end security device. The launch is a part of the recently announced Japan Mobile NFC Consortium that brings together the country’s three largest operators to coordinate the adoption of multiple international standards for NFC. Subscribers are able to experience various types of contactless services ranging from mobile payments, transportation services, e-driver’s licenses, e-ticketing as well as information acquisition from smart posters. KDDI began last year to insert UpTeq NFC in handsets in place of the standard SIM/UICC so they are ready now to mass deploy NFC services. This further permits the operator to progressively incorporate new partners without the need to extensively pre-qualify each and every service and application or anticipate all the subscriber configurations ahead of time.
