Elavon and Banco Santander Announce Joint Venture

Elavon payments provider and Banco Santander forged a joint venture relationship to assume responsibility for Santander’s merchant customers and will be equipped with specialized teams who, in collaboration with the branch network, will provide service, support and solutions. Customers will benefit from the powerful combination of Santander’s trusted brand and Elavon’s award-winning International Processing Platform and IP Gateway, recognized as the Best Merchant Acquiring Initiative by the Cards & Payments Awards in 2012. The new joint venture extends an existing relationship between Elavon and Santander dating from 2003 when the companies launched foreign currency payment services for Spanish retailers.

MasterCard PayPass Partners Nakumatt

Nakumatt is set to introduce the multi-currency EMV MasterCard PayPass Prepaid loyalty card to over one million of its loyalty program members for the largest prepaid merchant agreement for MasterCard in the Middle East and Africa region. The existing Nakumatt Cybercash loyalty card will be replaced with the Nakumatt Global MasterCard Prepaid card, allowing customers to load money onto the card for purchases at POS terminals, cash withdrawals and online purchases at Nakumatt stores across East Africa, and at any retailer that accepts MasterCard payment cards worldwide. Points earned will only be redeemable at Nakumatt stores.

TSYS Study Shows Consumer Payment Preference

TSYS made available its second annual nationwide primary consumer research study, the 2012 Consumer Debit-Payment Choice Research Study. Designed in conjunction with Mercator Advisory Group payments research and consulting the goal of the study was to provide a snapshot of current consumer behavior and attitudes toward debit, credit and emerging payment forms, as well as to gather both quantitative and qualitative information. More than 1,000 consumers who owned a debit card were surveyed on payment choice, perceptions of value, and what might influence them to change how they pay. Debit cards continue to be the preferred payment type for everyday purchases, driven in part by the desire of many to manage their money on a near-daily basis; Merchant discounts and offers are the most effective way to influence consumers to use a payment type more often; Awareness of alternative payment accounts and methods is high, and consumers’ overall understanding of and interest in mobile payments has advanced considerably since last year; and consumers continue to be focused on the security, ease of use, control and speed at check-out, and incorporating these features into new or expanded offerings will result in greater consumer adoption.

LowellBank Partners NCR, Installs Video ATM Tellers

LowellBank is set to install NCR “APTRA” Interactive Teller at remote sites to give customers greater access to teller services. The new ATM-based technology from NCR Corporation (NCR) lets customers conduct transactions and other banking sales and services with a live, remote teller, who has complete control of the ATM. Supported by simultaneous video and audio connections, Interactive Teller can help customers complete 95 percent of the teller services that can be done inside a branch. USA Technologies wireless, cashless payment and machine to machine (M2M) telemetry solutions for small-ticket, self-serve retailing industries, has expanded its cashless payment and M2M services in the kiosk market with electric vehicle stations sold by existing customer, Eaton Corporation (“Eaton”).
