Recurring Batch

Vancouver-based Strategic Profits, Inc. yesterday released its beta version 1.0 of its recurring credit card batch software. The software will provide merchants with the ability to generate a database of recurring credit card transactions through a Windows based software application. The transactions will then process automatically according to the schedule the merchant sets up. An e-invoice and e-receipting functionality will also be provided within the application. The system will work in conjunctions with SPI’s existing Verifone ‘Payworks 3’ payment engine. SPI says it will have the basic batch virtual POS terminal ready for beta testing within two weeks.


Vital Contract

Vital Merchant Services announced this morning it has awarded Hypercom a contract valued at more than $6 million for Hypercom’s card payment terminals. The deployment of terminals includes the distribution of Hypercom’s ‘epic ICE’ family of touch-screen card payment terminals and web appliances. Vital Merchant Services will deploy Hypercom terminals to retailers nationwide through Vital Processing Services’ acquiring and merchant service provider clients. Hypercom’s ‘epic ICE’ devices are high performance, touch screen-based, Internet-enabled card payment terminals and web appliances that incorporate a firewall-protected multi-application operating system, EMV chip card capability, secure PIN pad, built-in HTML/HTTP web browser and integrated receipt printer. The terminals also support: electronic signature and receipt capture, e-mail, on-screen advertising, interactive electronic coupons, and cash management reporting through a standard browser as well as secure credit, debit and smart card functions.


OPC Signs MS

Official Payments Corporation announced the company has signed an agreement with the State of Mississippi to provide a service enabling Mississippi citizens to make their state income tax invoice payments by credit card, over the Internet and by telephone. The new system is scheduled to go live later this year. The contract represents the firm’s first business within the state. Official Payments also provides various credit card payment services to the Internal Revenue Service, 17 other state governments, the District of Columbia, and over 700 counties and municipalities in 45 states across the United States.

When the system is launched later this year, Mississippi taxpayers will be able to use the American Express(R) Card, Discover(R) Card, and MasterCard(R) to make their state income tax invoice payments by visiting [][1] on the Internet or by calling 1-800-2PAY-TAX(SM). Official Payments will charge taxpayers a convenience fee of 2.5% of their tax payment for the service. For example, a taxpayer who makes a $500 tax payment would be charged a total of $512.50; $500 for the tax payment, and a 2.5% fee, or $12.50, to cover the cost of the service. As a bonus, taxpayers using credit cards with bonus rewards programs can, depending on their card’s program, earn rewards, points, and cash-back or airline frequent flyer miles for paying their taxes.

“The Mississippi State Tax Commission’s goal is to receive electronically as many tax filings and payments as possible,” said Shelton Vance, Deputy Director of the Mississippi State Tax Commission’s Office of Audit & Compliance. “Our partnership with Official Payments will help us achieve this goal by offering Mississippians two new options for paying certain tax obligations: over the Internet and by telephone,” Vance added.

“We are delighted that Mississippi has joined more than 700 government entities in providing Official Payments’ services to their taxpayers,” said Thomas R. In addition to the service for the state of Mississippi, taxpayers can now make their Federal Form 1040 Balance Due Payments, Form 4868 Extension of Time to File, and Form 1040ES Estimated Payments (beginning March 1) by credit card, on the Internet at or by calling 1-800-2PAY-TAX. Official Payments charges a flat 2.5% fee (minimum payment of $1.00), which is the lowest price available from the two companies that are listed in IRS instructions as providing credit card tax payment services to taxpayers. Official Payments will discuss the company’s first quarter 2001 financial results in a conference call on Wednesday, April 25, 2001 at 4:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. During the conference call, the company also expects to report on its tax season progress in collecting credit card income tax payments for the IRS and various state governments.

TX-based BancTec said this morning that Citigroup installed ‘PayCourier Retail 2-Pass’ at its credit card service operation centers in New Jersey and Las Vegas. Citi will also install the latest version of BancTec’s ‘PayCourier Archive’ solution, which includes the capability to Web-enable Citigroup’s customer service process. ‘PayCourier Retail 2-Pass’ is an easy-to-use system that manages all remittance processing and payment research needs. In the early 1980s, Citigroup became the first banking entity to utilize BancTec’s high-speed solution for payment processing.


ABNH Turnaround

After a tumultuous year, American Bank Note Holographics reported yesterday that operating income for 2000 was $500,000, compared with an operating loss of $600,000 for the previous year. The Company, which produces holograms for credit cards, now has no debt, and cash of $7.9 million. Working capital also increased by 400% from $2.1 million to $10.4 million. Total revenue for the year ended Dec 31, was $19.5 million, compared with $21.7 million for the same period in 1999. The decline in revenue reflects the effect of high inventory levels at credit card customers at the end of 1999 that reduced purchases in 2000 and the repositioning of the business to focus on strategic, higher margin growth markets. Sam’s ATMs

The nation’s top members-only warehouse club is now carrying ATMs in its vendor catalog. Wal-Mart- owned SAM’S CLUB has signed a deal to offer Triton ATMs, plus installation and service. The contract was won by MN-based, ATM distributor, Access Cash International. Featured in the SAM’S CLUB catalog will be Triton’s ‘Model 9600’, a popular off-premise ATM, and Triton’s new ‘Mako Low’, another popular model designed for low-traffic environments. The new catalog is scheduled for release this week. SAM’S CLUB has 150,000 business members. Access Cash has deployed 8,500 ATMs in North America. MS-based Triton is the second largest manufacturer of ATMs and ATM management software in the U.S. and has more than 50,000 installations in over 15 countries worldwide.

MA-based e-ClassicSystems announced this morning the addition of 6,600 ATMs in the first quarter for its ATM management software solution. The Company also announced the release of ‘ATM Manager Pro 3.3’ which provides a wizard to add new ATMs, and incorporates group-level terms. ‘ATM Manager Pro’ is a back-office solution which allows financial institutions and ISOs to catalog and warehouse all ATM information into its relational database through its patent-pending application programs. Upon capturing the data from any number of processors, customers can access and report on vital business information and trends, generate operating statements for each ATM or group of ATMs, generate accounting statements for vendors or merchants, improve cash management, and track ATM event information. A system to fight ‘Non Receipt Intercept’ credit card fraud losses has been extended to all issuers, regardless of the volume of the mailing, destination or special logistical needs. Until now, the ‘RACE’ program, developed by NY-based Pro Security Services and authorized by the U.S. Postal Service, has generally been limited to the top U.S. issuers. The ‘Risk Area Card / Check Expedite’ program was originally created to reduce the extensive handling associated with mass mailings of plastics into “Hot-ZIP”, or theft-prone areas, but has evolved into a variety of services that address NRI fraud losses. The three gaming properties of Trump Taj Mahal Associates in New Jersey recently signed a three-year contract to utilize the technologically advanced products and services of Global Cash Access, a supplier of cash access, financial management and customer relationship marketing technologies to the gaming industry.
