FIFA 3G PILOT

KT ICOM, Korea’s 3G IMT-2000 mobile operator, and Gemplus announced they will be providing W-CDMA trial services during the 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan. KT ICOM selected Gemplus to provide an entire platform of solutions covering the supply of USIM cards (GemXplore 3G), applet
development, and Over-The-Air (OTA) delivery system. With the arrival of the mobile data eco-system, the role of the card has become an architectural
control point between the end-user and the operator reinforcing their unique and privileged relationship. In this way, it can manage the end-user’s
relationship with different content providers, while guaranteeing the security of downloads on behalf of the operator. Its function as a flexible and secure way to store personal data and manage access to the network is fundamental to the development of mobile commerce and the uptake of mobile data services.

Smart Parking

The Toronto Parking Association said this morning that its deployment of 1,300 of SchlumbergerSema’s Web-based Pay & Display terminals has increased the city’s parking revenue by 60% since their installation in early 1999. The new web-based multi-space parking solution was developed, manufactured, and continues to be maintained with a centralized data management system as a joint effort between SchlumbergerSema and Precise ParkLink. The new centralized data management system requires no capital investment by new parking system customers, as the control server is managed centrally and can be accessed by multiple operators. SchlumbergerSema systems control more than two million parking spaces in more than 3,000 cities and 40 countries. The company currently has an installed base of 2,800 units controlling over 100,000 spaces in cities across the US and Canada.
