VF/HHP CDT 8810

VeriFone and NY-based HHP have introduced the ‘CDT 8810’ customer display terminals to facilitate credit, PIN-based debit, signature capture and the delivery of on-screen advertising at the point of sale. The company says a national retail drug store chain has contracted to take delivery of 6,000 units of the new terminal. The ‘CDT 8810’ solution features a powerful 32-bit processing and a full-color touch-panel display speed customers through the checkout process. The system supports PIN entry for debit and EBT transactions and signature capture for credit transactions. It also features a VGA touch screen display, an integrated hybrid card reader, and 16 Mbytes of memory.

Dallas-based TransFirst has named Joni Floyd has been named president of the Shared Services Division. A member of Affiliated Computer Services, Inc. management team from 1990 through 2000, she held numerous executive positions, including EVP of the Electronic Commerce Division, where she was responsible for all aspects of electronic banking systems, including business development, delivery systems, service and operations. Under her leadership, the ‘MoneyMaker’ ATM Network grew into one of the country’s largest third-party EFT processing companies.

JAVA SIM

STMicroelectronics and Aspects announced the two companies have signed a
license agreement to provide a system solution for a Java Card technology
based GSM SIM that is expected to decrease development time and speed up
time to market for card manufacturers and network operators wanting to
supply state-of-the-art Java SIM solutions for the GSM mobile phone
markets. Java Card technology enables software applications, or applets, to
be developed independently from the operating system in use and also allows
multiple applications to co-exist securely on a single smart card. The
combination of the ST19WG34 secure microcontroller in ST’s 0.18µm EEPROM
technology with Aspects OS755 GlobalPlatform compliant Java CardTM
operating system with integrated GSM Phase 2+ Release 1999 SIM applet
creates a highly advanced solution for the GSM market. The solution will
also provide a clear migration path to 3G Universal SIM technology.

Tax Miles

United Airlines and Bank One have expanded their “More Miles” program to offer ‘United Mileage Plus VISA’ cardholders additional miles when they use their card to pay their income taxes and Sprint bills. United is offering double miles for using the ‘United Mileage Plus VISA’ card to pay federal and state personal income taxes from March 1 through April 30, 2003. Also, up to 750 bonus miles for using the card to pay Sprint invoices.

Waterloo-based RDM Corporation reported that Xign Corporation
announced the release of XPSN 4.0, which includes new features and services
designed based on customer feedback and that Xign customers, including
Bristol-Myers Squibb, Armstrong World Industries, Sprint, T-Mobile and
others, have processed more than $10 billion in transactions with the more
than 5,000 participating suppliers on the XPSN. This represents a tenfold
increase in transaction volume compared to the year- earlier period. The
Xign Payment Services Network is the first complete electronic invoice and
payment solution designed exclusively for accounts payable organizations.

CheckFree has named Mark Johnson vice chairman, effective immediately. Johnson, who has served on CheckFree’s Board of Directors since 1982, brings to the Vice Chairman position nearly 25 years of experience in the payments industry. His background includes working at The Federal Reserve Bank in its processing areas, experience in corporate cash management and payment products with Bank One, and a number of executive leadership positions over an 18-year period with CheckFree, including the Vice Chairman post.

Euronet Worldwide reported annual consolidated revenues of $71.0 million
for 2002, an increase of 16.5% over 2001 revenues of $61.0 million.
Consolidated revenue for the fourth quarter 2002 was $18.6 million, an
increase of 10.4 percent over fourth quarter 2001 revenues of $16.8
million. The Processing Services Segment reported annual revenues for 2002
of $53.9 million, an increase of 17.4% over 2001 revenues of $45.9
million. Fourth quarter 2002 revenues were $15.1 million, up 10.5% over
fourth quarter 2001 revenues of $13.6 million and up 9.6% over third
quarter 2002 revenues of $13.8 million. As of December 31, 2002, Euronet
owned and/or operated a total of 3,005 ATMs compared to 2,951 ATMs in the
prior quarter. Quarterly transactions on the network reached 22.7 million
in the fourth quarter 2002, a 45% increase over 15.6 million in the fourth
quarter 2001. Fourth quarter transactions improved by 400,000 compared to
the prior quarter. Euronet owns and/or operates ATMs in Hungary, Poland,
Germany, Croatia, the Czech Republic, the UK, Greece and Egypt.

BioPay

VA-based BioPay announced its ‘bCheck’ biometric payment service. Santoni’s Supermarket, a family-owned business in Baltimore, Maryland, with a customer count of more than 1.2 million last year, will offer ‘bCheck’ to its grocery customers this year. ‘bCheck’ is based on biometric technology used in ‘Paycheck Secure,’ a payroll check cashing system. During a short enrollment process, the customer gives the clerk his or her driver’s license or other ID for inputting into BioPay’s database. At the same time, the customer’s index fingers are scanned. The customer’s preferred checking account is also recorded.

XPSN VOLUME

Xign Corporation reported this week that the total transaction volume over the Xign Payment Services Network has exceeded $10 billion. This represents a tenfold increase in transaction volume compared to the year-earlier period. XPSN automates all the core functions of the A/P process–invoice receipt, validation, routing, dispute management, approval, payment and posting–and offers a choice of settlement options that includes the ACH and MasterCard purchase card networks. The XPSN went into production as an electronic payment service in July of 2001, and became the first ePayables solution to combine electronic invoice and payment services over the Internet in the spring of 2002.
