NJ-based United Bank Card has relocated its headquarters to Hampton, with a new facility three times as large. United Bank Card (UBC) has enjoyed an unprecedented period of growth and needed more workspace. The new headquarters measures 17,000 square feet, enabling up to 75 more jobs to be added to help expand customer service and technical support coverage. The British are Easy Play for Phishers

A new survey by London-based APACS has found that nearly half a million Brits indicated they would automatically respond to an e-mail, supposedly from their bank, asking them to click on a link and re-enter their security details. The likely 4% response rate to a phishing and Trojan attack is about twice the rate of the USA. APACS also found that only 28% would check the veracity of such an e-mail with their bank first, while 65% would just ignore it. To educate consumers, APACS launched a one-stop consumer and SME advice site, www.banksafeonline.org.uk, to help Internet users protect themselves from online scams and threats. There are 14 million people banking online in the UK today, according to CardFlash International.

GPN Rolls-Out VIP LightSpeed for Gaming

Global Payments has introduced its advanced software platform, “VIP LightSpeed,” for the gaming industry which includes: “Global’s VIP Preferred @dvantage,” “PlayerCash @dvantage,” “PlayerNet @dvantage,” and “ATM Cash @dvantage.” Global Payments’ gaming network has over 150 casino participants. Australian Cardholders Hit the Brakes in July

Consumer purchase volume on credit cards tapered off during July in Australia to an annual growth rate of 7%, compared to a 16% year-on-year spurt in June. Balances also slowed to a 12% annual growth rate during July, compared to 14% in the previous month, according to CardFlash International. During July, Australians charged A$12.2 billion in purchases on credit cards compared to A$11.4 billion one-year ago. At the end of July, consumers owed A$27.7 billion on credit cards versus A$24.6 billion for July 2003. The ratio of credit card balances to card credit limits was flat compared to one-year ago, according to data released by the Reserve Bank of Australia. One-year ago, consumers had total credit lines of A$65.7 billion. Card credit limits reached A$74.2 billion at the end of July.

Tidel Produces its First Through-the-Wall ATM

MS-based Tidel Technologies has begun production on its new model “3700” through-the-wall ATM featuring a Dash ATM enclosure. Designed for financial institutions and retailers, the new model is able to provide customers with 24 hour access to ATM banking and can be placed in walk-up or drive-up locations. The model 3700 is weather- proof and comes with a variety of standard features including a high capacity rear load dispenser and metal keypad. The model runs on the Microsoft® Windows CE operating system using an Intel Xscale 32 bit processor. To provide the model 3700 with enclosures, Tidel recently formed an alliance with Dash ATM, a company manufacturer of ATM enclosures. Tidel Technologies, Inc. manufactures ATM and cash security equipment intended for retail marketers.

EGG & ING

Egg has received an offer for its savings and online brokerage business, which includes approximately 45,000 savings and investment accounts, from ING Direct France. If the deal goes through, up to 40 of Egg France’s 450 workforce would be re-deployed. Last week, Egg received an offer for the consumer credit part of the French business from Banque Accord. On July 13th the Board of Egg announced that it had begun to
take the necessary steps to withdraw from the French market.

TSYS Completes European Data Center

TSYS has completed its new European data center in Knaresborough. The new 53,000 square-foot center replaced the company’s leased data center in Harrogate. TSYS Europe has offices in London and York in the United Kingdom, as well as sales offices in The Netherlands and Spain serving northern and southern Europe, respectively. TSYS currently serves more than 20 million consumer and commercial credit accounts in Europe, a market with 562 million credit and debit cards issued in 2003.

Moneris and infiNET Team to Capture Tuition

Santa Clara University and Seattle Pacific University have selected Moneris to provide credit card processing services through their partner, infiNET. Moneris Solutions is one of North America’s largest electronic transaction processors. The Moneris Solutions and infiNET Service Charge Program enables students at SCU and Seattle Pacific University to pay tuition and other fees using their credit cards. According to Larry C. Wine, president of Moneris Solutions U.S. Group, Moneris and infiNET have created a program that could save universities hundreds of thousands of dollars in budget per year. Moneris Solutions’ processing services are provided through infiNET’s QuickPAY (R) service, which enables the universities to accept credit card payments online. infiNET is a provider of innovative business services and software.
