Morgan Beaumont has inked a deal with MoneyGram Payment Systems to enable its cardholders to load value to their Morgan Beaumont cards at MoneyGram’s U.S. locations. MoneyGram’s network includes supermarkets, convenience stores, check cashers and financial institutions across the US. Axalto has launched “Instant Issuance”, a secure end-to-end solution that
allows banks to immediately issue personalized EMV cards directly at their
branches, with a design customized on request. With “Instant Issuance”,
not only do bank customers get their new microprocessor card on the spot,
but they can also have a personal picture inserted onto it and choose
their card body and PIN code in a few minutes. “Instant Issuance” is based
on Axalto’s data preparation and personalization software suite and
high-end EMV banking cards, with a security protocol that is compliant
with the GlobalPlatform international standard.

U.S. Bank’s Elan Financial Services and GenPass have decided to merge the “MoneyPass” and “Fastbank Free” surcharge-free ATM networks. Elan acquired Genpass in May and its surcharge-free network of more than 6,500 ATMs. The merger will create a national, surcharge-free network with nearly 10,500 ATMs located in the 48 continental states. The merged network will maintain the “MoneyPass” brand name and will continue the “pay as you go” pricing model. Genpass also operates the “Moneymaker” and “MONEY BELT” EFT Networks. Colorado-based Dynamic Card Solutions has signed its 200th customer for its “CardWizard” instant issuance debit card software. Virginia Commerce Bank will begin installing DCS’ CardWizard software and DataCard’s 150i embosser in December to instantly issue Visa debit cards from its Reston, Virginia location. It will then roll out the program to its remaining 17 branches by March of next year. Americans will likely use general purpose credit/debit cards and store credit cards to charge about $120 billion in retail sales this holiday season. The figure is about 5.4% above last year. Signature debit card use is expected to soar by nearly 17% while store credit cards will generate fewer sales this year, about 8% less. Consumers will likely rack up more than $77 billion in holiday sales on VISA, MasterCard, American Express and Discover credit cards. VISA reported that total spending by consumers and businesses on VISA-branded payment cards rose to approximately $23.3 billion last week, a 12% increase over the same period in 2004. VISA says the figures point to a moderate to strong holiday season.

The country’s second largest credit card issuer has posted 1.18
trillion won in profit for 2005 after earning 363.4 billion won in the
the third quarter. However, controlling interest in LG Card is on the
sale block as its creditors this week named JP Morgan Chase as the lead
manager for the sale. Korea Development Bank and other creditors are
seeking to unload their combined 51% stake in LG Card by the end of this
year. The expected sale price is expected to be in the 5 trillion won
range. LG Card has posted four consecutive quarters of solid
profitability. In the third quarter of 2004, the issuer reported a 46.8
billion won loss. Since then, LG Card has earned 1.47 trillion won. In
