First Data Signs Three New Processing Agreements

First Data International and PROCESA announced the recent signing of
three new payment
processing agreements with Bank of Bahamas, Fidelity Bank and the New
England Bankcard Association. Bank of The Bahamas International operates
from 11 locations throughout The Bahamas including New Providence Grand
Bahama, Andros, Inagua and San Salvador. Fidelity is a financial services
group offering a comprehensive range of both domestic and international
financial services. New England Bankcard Association provides services to
financial institutions throughout the United States, Bermuda, Barbados and
the Cayman Islands.

Interac, MasterCard and VISA Announce EMV Migration

Interac, MasterCard and VISA, plus many card issuers and acquirers,
announced a firm commitment to a broad industry migration to EMV smart
cards. The EMV standards allows for the harmonizing of policies,
procedures and technical standards, ensuring interoperability among all
payment schemes and thereby simplifying the implementation requirements
for payment system participants, including merchants. This multilateral
announcement follows individual announcements by Interac, MasterCard and
VISA regarding their respective intentions to move to chip card
technology. Beginning in 2007, many merchants and cardholders will start
to see the introduction of cards that feature chip technology, and
within three years of this date, it is expected that the majority of
cardholders and merchants will be able to fully benefit from this new
technology.

Pay By Touch Launches a UK Implementation

San Francisco-based Pay By Touch has launched its first UK implementation at the Midcounties
Co-operative supermarket in Oxford. The Pay By Touch system uses a
simple finger scan to authorize an electronic transaction from a
customer’s existing accounts while automatically honoring Co-op dividend
points. The Pay By Touch technology does not use actual fingerprints;
instead, it reads a set of 40 unique measurements that are encrypted and
hosted at secure IBM data centers. The unique measurements cannot be
reverse engineered into a fingerprint. More than 2.3 million shoppers are already using Pay By Touch throughout the United States to make purchases, access frequent shopper programs, and cash checks at more than 2,000 retail locations. The Midcounties Co-operative Society is the largest regional independent retailer in the area and the fourth largest
Co-operative Society in the UK.

Agriculture Bank Orders More Wincor Nixdorf ATMS

The Agriculture Bank of China has placed another order with Wincor
Nixdorf for 877 ATMs. The
contract is, in terms of volume, one of the largest orders Wincor
Nixdorf has won in China and sees the service provider which specializes
in branch banking and distributed retailing continue its planned
expansion in Asia. The Agriculture Bank of China now has over 1,300
Wincor Nixdorf self-service systems in service. The bank’s branch network consists of 37 main provincial branches, over 30,000 other branches and 400 self-service centers.

Survey Indicates Stronger ID Protection Needed

According to new research from MasterCard Canada, 81% of Canadians
believe that losing their social insurance number card (SIN) would put
them at the greatest risk for identity theft. Yet 58 % of Canadians
carry their SIN card with them at all times. When asked to name the
one piece of identification most likely to put them at risk for identity
theft, 29% of Canadians said the loss of their SIN
card would make them most vulnerable, followed by loss of a credit card
(22%) and passport (19%). The survey was conducted by Environics
Research Group on behalf of MasterCard Canada from February 16th through
the 20th.

JCB to Launch Discover Aloha Hawaii Campaign

JCB is set to launch the “JCB Discover Aloha Hawaii Project.” The
project will run from April 1st until March 31st, 2007. The campaign
gives visitors using the JCB card in Hawaii a chance to win a grand
prize of a free return trip to the Islands and many other attractive
prizes provided by alliance partners. JCB cardholders can also ride
selected Waikiki Trolley routes for free when showing the JCB card.
Plus, cardholders receive a pocket-sized brochure which lists 124
stores, restaurants, and other merchants giving JCB cardholders special
discounts and other premiums. The campaign is supported by Hawai’i
Tourism Japan. JCB has 56 million cardholders and is the only Asia-based
international payment brand.

Sophisticated Phishing Kits Target Chase

Phishing attacks have gone to a new level with the introduction of phishing kits that include a suite of tools such as Web development software, email lists, and spamming software. CA-based SurfControl says it has seen a 30% increase in phishing kit attacks. The Company says a new phishing kit has been distributed to phish for Chase account numbers. Initial reports unveiled by Netcraft indicated that a compromised server hosted in China was participating in the Chase phish campaign but SurfControl says it has uncovered additional activity on servers in the USA. SurfControl says the phishing kit threat is like no other it has seen.

Major Credit Bureaus Adopt a Uniform Score

Equifax, Experian and TransUnion have introduced a credit scoring methodology that is more uniform across the three consumer credit reporting companies. Under the new “VantageScore” scoring system credit score variance between the companies will be attributed to data differences within each of the three consumer credit files and not to the structure of the scoring model or data interpretation. VantageScore will range from 501 to 990. An “A” score will range from 901 to 990; “B” score from 801 to 900; “C” score from 701 to 800; “D” score from 601 to 700; and “F” score from 501 to 600. VantageScore is being independently marketed and sold separately through each of the three national credit reporting companies via licensing agreements with VantageScore Solutions.

Rahaxi to Supply Terminals to Thyron Systems

Helsinki-based Rahaxi Processing has agreed to supply portable
EMV-compatible payment processing devices from Thyron Systems. Thyron
Systems mobile processing devices will be the most full-featured
portable payment terminals to be available in Finland and are currently
being used in the licensed taxis from Heathrow Airport, the high-speed
rail link between central Stockholm and the city’s main airport, and by
British Airways to supply electronic cash reimbursements to customers.
Rahaxi currently processes in excess of 1.3 million card payments per
month for such companies as Finnair, Ikea and Stockman.
