Malev Hungarian Airlines and Citibank have launched a co-brand credit card which will be available for individual customers beginning August 1st. The new MasterCard offers a welcome gift of 2,000 points for “Silver” cardholders and 4,000 points for new “Gold” cardholders. Also, on the occasion of the first flight after joining the “Malev Duna Club,” a joining gift of 2,000 points is rewarded to the “Silver” cardholders,
while this gift is 6,000 points for “Gold” cardholders. “Silver” cardholders earn 1 point after each HUF 250 spending and
double points are logged in the first three months, while the “Gold”
cardholders receive 2 points for a spending of HUF 400 with their credit
card, and double points are logged in the first six months. The annual fee for “Silver” main cardholders is HUF 6,400, while “Gold” main cardholders are charged an annual fee of HUF 16,400.

VASCO Revenues Up 50% in 2Q/06

VASCO Data Security International reported that revenues for the second quarter increased 50% to $18.5 million. Net income soared by 92% to $3.0 million. Approximately 2.7 million “Digipasses” shipped in the second quarter, an increase of 71% from 2Q/05. The Company also won 361 new customers in the quarter (46 banks and 315 enterprise security).
VASCO also says it has won 15 new U.S. banks in the second quarter for corporate banking applications. This is a record in the company’s history. Calif Surfers Earn KushCash via Cell Phones

CA-based Secure Wireless Transfers Corporation has launched a mobile commerce Beta application and service at the Bank of the West Beach Surfing Games this week in Huntington Beach, CA. The new “KushCash” service enables surfer winners to be paid directly to their mobile phones. The Company has set up registration kiosks and promotional giveaways at its booth and throughout the event. Participating merchant vendors at the Festival Village will be accepting “KushCash” mobile payments and offering discounts for items purchased with the new service. Consumers can also transfer money to another party.

True Product ID and Mondex Capital Ink a Deal

True Product ID has signed a licensing agreement with Mondex
Capital, whose parent Mondex is a part of the MasterCard
International suite of smart card products. The terms of the agreement
grant MCI the exclusive rights to utilize TPID’s technology in Korea and
Japan for an initial term of three years. The use is limited to the
manufacture and distribution of credit cards and card-related services
such as smart card products. TPID will receive a royalty of 7.5% of the
gross receipts received by MCI and its affiliates from sales utilizing
the licensed technology and an up-front rights acquisition fee of $50,000 per country.

Payment Card Spending Up 6% in the First Half

Spending on plastic cards in the first six months of this year hit a record GBP 151 billion of purchases. Debit cards continue to dominate, accounting for 70% of the purchases made in the UK. During June, actual spending on debit cards reached GBP 16.2 billion and credit card spending amounted to GBP 10.2 billion. About 543 million purchases were made on plastic in June (377 million on debit cards and 166 million on credit cards) an increase in 4.9% on June 2005. Of these purchases, two-thirds took place on the high street, with the strongest contribution in the food and drink and household sectors, reflecting the warm weather and the impact of the World Cup. The figures come from APACS, the UK payments association representing card companies.

Gemplus Revenues Increase by 5% in 2Q/06

Smart card specialist Gemplus International reported a 5% jump in net sales for the second quarter driven by growth in the Financial Services and ID & Security units. Second quarter revenues climbed to $315.5 million, compared to $259.4 million in the prior quarter and $301.4 million for 2Q/05. Gemplus shipped 20.8 million units of payment microprocessor cards during the quarter, up 24% year-on-year. Payment microprocessor card revenue rose 2% year-on-year. The Company noted that it been chosen by Commonwealth Bank of Australia for Australia’s first MasterCard “PayPass” pilot. The six-month trial will be rolled out in New South Wales, with the first phase involving 33,000 cardholders who will be able to use their MasterCard “PayPass” cards at more than 150 participating merchants. Standard Chartered Bank Launches a Titanium MasterCard

Standard Chartered Bank has introduced the “Standard Chartered Super Value Titanium MasterCard” credit card. This is the first card in India to offer a lifetime cash-back at a flat rate of 5% as a permanent feature and not a promotion. Cardholders earn 5% cash back on fuel and
telecom usage, and 1% on all other categories. The card also offers free airport lounge access at all Clipper lounger across the country. Standard Chartered Bank is India’s largest international bank.

Euronet Worldwide’s Profit Quadruples

Euronet Worldwide reported that second quarter revenues increased 16% to $153.8 million year-on-year. Net income rose to $11.1 million, compared to net income for the second quarter 2005 of $2.7 million. EFT Processing posted revenues of $32.4 million, compared to $26.0 million for 2Q/05. Transactions processed were 113.6 million, compared to 86.8 million transactions in the same period last year. The EFT Segment completed the quarter with 7,866 ATMs owned or operated, including 58 ATMs Euronet installed in China, compared to 6,565 ATMs at the end of 2Q/05. Prepaid Processing reported revenues of $114.2. Transactions processed were 107.8 million, compared to 86.2 million transactions in the second quarter 2005. The Software Solutions segment produced revenues of $7.2 million for the quarter. Combining all segments, transactions processed in the second quarter were 221.4 million compared to 173.0 million processed in the second quarter 2005, a 28% increase. SmartPay and CMBC Team for Mobile Payments

Shanghai-based SmartPay Jieyin has formed a nationwide partnership with Beijing-based China Minsheng Banking on mobile payment services. SmartPay’s mobile payment services has now expanded to more than 19 main cities in China. SmartPay enables mobile subscribers to receive, send and spend

Asia Payment Systems to Acquire Global Uplink

Hong Kong-based Asia Payment Systems has signed an agreement in principle to acquire Guangzhou-based Global Uplink Communications. GUC has an established loyalty program operations and related services in both China and Hong Kong. The Company says Global Uplink’s CRM and call center operations are currently profitable, and acquisition of the company will immediately provide Asia Payments with a minimum of US $1 million per year in revenue. Asia Payment Systems is a fully reporting US public company.
