More than one thousand tickets to Barbra Streisand’s upcoming national concert tour were fraudulently purchased from Ticketmaster using stolen credit card information and have since been invalidated even though they are being offered on resale Web sites such as eBay. The tour’s national promoter, Michael Cohl, Ticketmaster and Ms. Streisand’s manager, Martin Erlichman, cautioned consumers today that these fraudulently purchased and invalidated tickets purchased from unauthorized resellers will not allow the ticket holder to gain admission to the venue on the night of the show.

TNB Buys Two More CU Portfolios

Dallas-based TNB Card Services has purchased the credit card portfolios of Vision One CU of Sacramento and Albuquerque VA CU. TNB issues credit cards for more than 90 credit unions. It began its agent issuer program in 2002. Vision One CU is aimed primarily at optometrists. For Albuquerque VA CU, the merger with Rio Grande Credit Union, also based in Albuquerque, triggered the sale. Rio Grande sold its card program to TNB in early 2005, and the additional accounts from Albuquerque VA also became part of TNB’s agent program. TNB serves more than 450 financial institutions and manages more than 1.6 million cards nationwide.

Biz Check ARC and POP Set to Go

Under rules developed and issued by NACHA, business checks up to $25,000 are eligible to be converted into ACH transactions through Accounts Receivable Conversion (ARC) or Point-of-Purchase (POP) transactions. The new rules effect September 15th. ePayments Corp. says the new rules are both an opportunity and a threat for businesses and institutions processing such transactions. For businesses and organizations writing checks, ePayments says it’s important to understand how to opt out of having checks electronically converted. For organizations accepting checks, it’s important to understand which checks received can and cannot be processed electronically, and the impact that electronic processing will have on cash flow. NACHA estimates that 2.3 billion checks were converted into ACH payments in 2005.

Ra’anana-based POS specialist, Retalix, reported second quarter revenues of $45.9 million, a 5% year-over-year decline and a 9% drop sequentially. The decrease was due to delays in the delivery of several
projects that were not completed before the end of the quarter. The net loss was $2.7 million, compared to a net income of $2.5 million in the second quarter of 2005. RFID Tag ICs Shipments Double Over 2005

A new report shows that more than 565 million high-frequency RFID tag ICs were shipped last year. According to ABI Research shipments of “HF ISO14443” tag ICs increased 104%. During the past year, the U.S. focused on contactless payment and transit-ticketing trials. In North America, there is interest in open loop transit ticketing applications; for example, several major cities such as New York have been testing public transport contactless ticketing systems. Meanwhile other regions including Europe and Asia that began embracing contactless technology earlier are now implementing the technology at higher rates with fuller, wider deployments. These two factors have helped this market achieve significant growth.

Advertising Inserts Make a Difference

MD-based Vertis Communications reported that a recent survey showed that 33% of adults with children are influenced the most by advertising inserts when making their purchasing decisions. While many back to school purchases will revolve around fashion, many adults have plans to purchase home electronic items this year. Among the adults with children between six and 11 years old, 23% plan to purchase a desktop computer. On the other hand, 20% of adults with children between the ages of 12 and 17 have plans to purchase a notebook or laptop computer. Video gaming systems are also a popular item among 23% of adults with children five years old and younger, 24% of adults with children between six and 11 years old and 20% of adults with children 11 to 16 years old, compared to 13% of total adults.
