World’s Foremost Bank Card Loans Rise 24%

The World’s Foremost Bank, a subsidiary of Cabela’s, the “World’s Foremost Outfitter,” reported that its average VISA credit card loans increased 24% in the third quarter compared to one-year ago. With an estimated 1.7 million cardholders for its “Club VISA,” WFB posted managed card loans of $1.731 billion for 3Q/07. For the third quarter, the nation’s 23rd largest issuer, also reported interest income of $48.5 million, interchange income of $16.5 million and other credit card fee income of $7.4 million. Over the past year Cabela’s has introduced a loyalty card and a debit card with rewards. Last year, U.S. Bank and Cabela’s introduced the “Cabela’s VISA Check Card,” offering reward points for signature purchases. The “Club VISA” offers 2% back on all Cabela purchases and 1% on other purchases. StoreNext and First Data Target Grocers

Retalix’s StoreNext Retail Technologies and First Data have signed an agreement that enables independent grocers to access a variety of “TeleCheck Electronic Check Solutions” via StoreNext’s recently-announced “Connected Payments” program. Under terms of the agreement, StoreNext will offer First Data’s “TeleCheck Electronic Check Acceptance” integrated solution for supermarkets to all Connected Payments users in an exclusive check-processing arrangement. The TeleCheck ECA solution lets grocers convert paper checks into electronic transactions while incorporating authorization, settlement and collections through its “TeleCheck ECA Warranty” service. StoreNext Retail Technologies is a supplier of retail technology to independent grocers and regional chains.

Coinstar Net Income Jumps 72% for 3Q/07

WA-based Coinstar reported that third quarter revenues were flat at $143.3 million. However, net income soared 72% to $9.0 million, compared to 3Q/06. The Company posted adjusted earnings of $0.21 per share, 9 cents better than estimates. Coinstar said that its coin processing and e-payments division posted solid results, while its DVD kiosk business continued to exceed expectations but, its entertainment category continues to face challenges. The company expects revenue for the fourth quarter to range from $135 million to $145 million. The Company reported that its installed base of coin machines hit 14,500 as of September 30th, compared to 13,100 one-year ago. Coin-to-Card, e-payment and e-certificate enabled machines topped 9,200 at the end of the third quarter, compared to 7,300 for 3Q/06. Fiserv to Unload its Health Business

Fiserv has signed an definitive agreement to sell its Health business to UnitedHealthcare for $775 million in cash. The transaction includes Fiserv Health Plan Administration, Fiserv Health Plan Management, an outsourcing service for mid-sized health plans and health care payer organizations; Innoviant, a prescription benefits administrator; Innoviant Pharmacy, a prescription mail-order service; Avidyn Health, a care management company; and four other components of Fiserv Health’s ancillary businesses. The company will retain its workers’ compensation services organization, which includes the recently announced WorkingRx acquisition. The company will also retain its CareGain, Inc. technology business, which is used to intermediate health banking solutions. Both of these businesses will remain in the insurance segment. Fiserv provides information management systems and services to the financial and insurance industries which include transaction processing, outsourcing, business process outsourcing (BPO), software and systems solutions.

E-Duction’s Clear MasterCard is Embraced

A recent survey conducted by PA-based credit solution provider E-Duction indicated that more than four out of five respondents were “highly satisfied” with the company’s “Clear MasterCard program”. The Clear Card is only available through employers as a voluntary benefit. It has some unique features such as guaranteed-issue credit and automatic payment via payroll deductions that traditional credit cards don’t offer. Of those surveyed, 61% said the program was “much better” than traditional credit cards, 83% of respondents were “highly satisfied” with the card’s 0% interest rate, 83% of those surveyed were “highly satisfied” with the card’s automated payroll deduction repayment mechanism and 81% of respondents were highly satisfied with the card’s guaranteed-issue feature. E-Duction provides payroll payment solutions to the benefits administration arena.

Hispanics are Most Active Gift Card Group

A new survey has found that Hispanics received gift cards with the highest average value among all ethnic groups at an average balance of $71, compared to $41 for Caucasians and $60 for African-Americans. The Comdata Stored Value Solutions fifth annual gift card survey also found that 26% of Hispanics surveyed report giving gift cards to children as a budgeting tool or in lieu of an allowance. Other findings: Hispanics are most likely to purchase gift cards for personal use; they are most likely to spend more than the value on their cards; and they buy cards with higher initial values and are most likely to reload cards. Additionally, the survey found that 71% of Hispanics prefer cards that also function as a DVD with music and 75% appreciate a card that is presented in unusual packaging.

ANTI-FRAUD CAMPAIGN

APACS and the UK Petroleum Industry Association have launched
the “National Card Fraud Prevention Campaign” to remind customers
to be cautious and to secure card details and PIN information at all
times. With this campaign, petrol stations across the country make
available informative cards reminding customers to be alert, shield
PIN entry and to not let cards out of sight when conducting transactions.
Research shows that chip and PIN technology has decreased domestic
card fraud by 67% since 2004, yet APACS wants to remind consumers
that card details can still be used overseas in countries not implementing
the technology. The importance of protecting card details is still a
necessity and to aid in doing so, APACS has published the educational
guides “Protect your PIN”, for consumers, and “Transactions with your
chip and PIN terminal”, for retailers.

Upaid has implemented the VISA Mobile Service with Telekom Serbia
allowing users to top up through SMS text messaging. Furthermore, the
mobile top-up can be conducted independently of merchants which is
authorized from a pre-designated VISA debit or credit card. With this
development, VMS will link Serbian banks with Telekom’s 3.7 million
customers. There are 1.8 million VISA card holders in Serbia and 5.2
million mobile phone users, out of a population of 7.5 million. Projections
for growth reaching 2 million customers in Serbia is imminent. VISA
generates over $4 trillion in sales worldwide with acceptance at more than
24 million locations.

According to Juniper Research, 52 million additional customers will begin
using mobile payment methods, such as NFC, by 2011 for a projected
industry-wide revenue of $11.5 billion. This will result in support for
contactless payment in 12% of the total mobile phones in circulation.

MASTERCARD 3Q/07

MasterCard posted record net income of more than $314 million for the third quarter compared to $193 million one-year ago, as net revenues climbed 20% to more than $1 billion for the quarter. In the prior quarter, MasterCard earned $252 million on revenues of $997 million. Gross dollar volume climbed 13% for 3Q/07 to $577 billion and worldwide purchase volume increased 14% to $430 billion. As of September 30th, the Company’s customers had issued 878 million MasterCard, an increase of 11% over the same period in 2006. General & Administrative Expenses rose 10% to $432.8 million. However, Advertising & Market Development Expenses rose about 26% to $268.3 million. CITIBANK PHOTO CARD

Citibank has launched its photo embossed debit card in Hungary
to provide customers with an increased level of security. The new
product features a photograph of the card holder printed directly on
the card. Citibank MasterCard embossed debit cards will allow users
to conduct secure transactions at 23 million locations in 210 countries
in addition to the photo embossed credit cards which have been available
to Hungarian customers since 1999. The Citi corporation provides
financial products and services in more than 100 countries and has nearly
200 million customer accounts around the globe.
