STM IPAD

STMicroelectronics has announced the introduction of its integrated chip,
“the EMIF06-SD02F3”, which uses Integrated Passive and Active Devices
(IPAD) technology to provide memory card function. In doing so, the new
chip integrates signal conditioning, bidirectional level shifting, ESD
(electrostatic discharge) protection, EMI (electromagnetic interference)
filtering,
and a 2.9V voltage regulator into a single monolithic chip. This
integration is
designed to increase system reliability with the installation
requirement of less
than 7 square millimeters of board space. The “EMIF06-SD02F3” is a
lead-free,
24-bump, 400-micron pitch flip-chip priced at $1.10 for quantities up to
1 million
units and $0.95 in quantities of 1 to 5 million units.
STMicroelectronics develops
and delivers semiconductor solutions with a 2006 net revenue of $9.85
billion and net earnings of $782 million.

Citi and Wright Express Ink a Major Deal

ME-based Wright Express and Citi have inked a multi-year marketing and customer servicing alliance agreement for selected oil commercial credit card portfolios within Citi Cards’ oil credit card franchise. Leveraging the capabilities of the two companies will offer Citi’s oil company partners the ability to market their private label fleet card products more extensively, offer multiple credit and billing options, optimize account activation and retention, and offer products and services that will create long term relationships with fleets. Wright Express provides services for approximately 300,000 commercial and government fleets containing 4.4 million vehicles.

SECURITY INDEX

According to the Unisys Security Index, consumers in countries with
developing economies, including Brazil, Hong Kong, Malaysia and
Singapore, are experiencing growing concern for fraud and security
issues. The Security Index is an annual survey of more than 13,000
people in 14 countries to gage consumer anxiety with a scale of zero
to 300. Specifically, Brazilian consumer anxiety was measured at
188, Hong Kong was found to have an index of 179, Malaysia
had an index of 174 and Singapore was at 172. Furthermore, the
survey found that British had bankcard fraud anxiety that was gauged
at 184, paying bills on time in the UK was rated at 98, Internet security
made Germans anxious with an index rating of 155, the Italians were
very unconcerned about Internet security with a 64 index score and
the French were found to be the least concerned about all issues with
an overall index rating of 83. Other overall index scores found that,
just behind Singapore, Germany had an anxiety rating of 160, the U.S.
was found to have a 151 index, Australia scored 144, the U.K. was clocked
at 138, Belgium had a 131 index, Spain reflected an index of 115, New
Zealand had an index of 108, the Netherlands reflected an index of 98
and Italy was carefree with an index of 90. What has been found to plague
the minds of all consumers surveyed of all countries, however, is financial
security with Hong Kong citizens ranking as the most concerned with an
index of 235. Hong Kong was then followed by Brazil with 221, then
Singapore with 211, Malaysia with 204 and the U.S. with a 185 security
index. France and the Netherlands, however, were found to be the least
concerned over this matter with indexes of 159 and 156, respectively.

EUROZONE PMI

The Bloomberg Eurozone PMI monthly report on the Eurozone retail
sector has indicated a drop in sales for the start of 4Q07. These findings,
representing 75% of Eurozone retail based on the responses of over
1,000 professionals in the business, reflect a month-on-month decline in
sales which fell below the 50.0 no-change mark that divides expansion from
contraction. For the month of October, this mark was reportedly at 47.9
in France, Italy and Germany. Specifically, the retail PMI plummeted the
most in France with an index drop of 47.2, from September’s 54.2 thanks
to a decline in purchasing power and rising tax burden. Germany saw a PMI
decline for the 6th time this year with rate of contraction of 48.6
while Italian
retail sales fell to a PMI rate of 48.0. Bloomberg’s media services

SAS has introduced its “SAS Fraud Management” solution, which has
been developed with HSBC to prevent credit card fraud. With this,
HSBC customers are given piece of mind with card fraud protection, a
crime that cost the industry $4.84 billion in 2006. Furthermore, the
software allows the bank operational efficiency, greater clarity and
accuracy of decisions in determining fraudulent claims. During the first
3 months of SAS implementation, HSBC has increased data processing
by 87 % with a subsequent 53% decrease in mainframe processing cost,
decreased computing resource cost by 30%, increased efficiency in agents
investigations by 10% and has reduced IT support costs. SAS Fraud
Management is projected to furnish HSBC bank with transaction
protection of over 100 million credit and debit cards in more than 30
countries over the coming years. Currently, the solution protects customers
at 43,000 sites using the software with data integration, storage,

Pago eTransactions has announced that it will be processing
Maestro International transactions allowing the company to
provide Maestro Acceptance to Internet merchants throughout
Europe. In doing so, various online merchants are presented with
new customer potential and are provided an alternative for

Maestro merchants are also required to participate
in MasterCard’s “SecureCode” program which protects both the

Citi Launches a New Cards Ad Campaign

Citi has unleashed a new national advertising campaign for its U.S. credit cards division. The first ads aired this past weekend. The U.S. cards advertisements use Citi’s red arc. The first spot features a father and son who celebrate the father’s 60th birthday by using a Citi Card to travel together to the land of their ancestors. Publicis New York developed the campaign idea that centers around the question “What’s your story?” and created new television commercials and print advertising that aim to connect consumers and Citi Cards on an emotional level. TV advertising will run nationally on network and cable programs such as NFL, ABC College Football, ESPN, Grey’s Anatomy, CSI, Heroes and Dancing with the Stars. Print advertising will run nationally in publications like ESPN the Magazine, Sports Illustrated, People, Time, US News, Vogue and In Style.
