U.S. Bank and Anheuser-Busch have teamed to offer the “Budweiser Rewards VISA Platinum Card.” The new card offers points toward gift cards good for Anheuser-Busch merchandise. Cardholders earn three “Specialty Rewards” points for every $1 spent in net purchases at Anheuser-Busch related stores. According to Angus Reid/Intuit research, regarding Canadians’ concerns,
cedit card debt is among the most common. The research was gathered from
1,045 people across Canada and shows 26% of consumers most desire the
abolition of their credit card debt, 22% want to alleviate their mortgage
payment and 15% hope to shed extra pounds. Moreover, Atlantic Canadians
were the most concerned with credit card debt showing 32% in this region
were concerned with this factor above all else while only 22% in Alberta
shared this sentiment. Women were the most concerned with credit card debt
with findings that 30% of those polled wish they had none, compared to 21%
of men, and 33% of those polled between the ages of 35 and 54 years old
felt the same, the largest age group with this concern.

VISA Businesscard Expands its Merchant Program

VISA has expanded its merchant program to provide business cardholders with 130 discount offers available in 17 merchant categories through its website. The website is being launched in 11 dfferent languages, including Arabic, English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Turkish and Ukrainian and is in response to research demonstrating 75% of the participating 700 small business owners value discounts on such items as office supplies, business travel or other business-related needs. The research also shows 80% of the businesses would prefer a single online source from which they could access offers targeted to their demographic such as the new VISA website.

MASTERCARD & TJX

MasterCard has partnered with TJX to provide its issuers with an
“Alternative Recovery Program” in lieu of the latter’s recent data breach.
With this development, TJX will provide up to $24 million to support the
program to settle claims made by MasterCard’s card issuers to recover
costs and losses resulting from the breach for those that filed claims,
contingent upon acceptance. These issuers, however, must agree not to
seek or participate in any other recoveries that may be available to
issuers,
releasing the said acquirers from all legal and financial liability
associated
with the aforementioned data breach and have 30 days from the date of the
Settlement Agreement (April 2, 2008) to decide whether or not to opt-in
to the “Alternative Recovery Program”.

Global Cash Access Closes on Certegy Deal

Global Cash Access has closed the acquisition of Certegy Gaming Services from Fidelity National Transaction Services. GCA acquired all of CGS’s issued shares of stock for a purchase price of $25 million. CGS is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of GCA. As part of the acquisition, GCA will replace all of the cash that was held in CGS’s ATM machines and booths at its customer locations. GCA provides nearly 1,000 gaming properties worldwide with technology and services. CGS provides similar cash access services to approximately 130 gaming properties in the U.S. and the Caribbean.
