Omni Prepaid Group has announced that GiftCards.com is “Visa Certified” and will
officially bring their gift card printing in-house at the Pittsburgh headquarters.
Omni Prepaid Group will roll the presses in their 20,000
square-foot fulfillment center, dubbed “OmniPrint,” to become the first and only gift card company
to print their own customized Visa gift cards, merchant cards, and
marketing inserts in-house. The computerized DataCard MX6000 machines with VHD
technology can thermal crisp 4-color images on the front of the gift cards,
create a customized magnetic strip on the back, emboss personalized lines
of text, place an activation sticker, print a customized insert page,
adhere the gift cards to the insert, fold, stuff, and print postage. Large
and small retailers can use OmniPrint to have their gift cards printed and
managed. These merchant cards can also be sold on GiftCards.com, which is
an option no other gift card printing company currently offers.

ABA Survey Finds Low Monthly Bank Fees

An annual survey has found that 65% of consumers spend $3 or less in
monthly bank fees for services, including checking account maintenance
and ATM access, while 52% pay nothing. The survey conducted by Ipsos
Reid on behalf of the American Bankers Association found that consistent
with previous ABA consumer surveys dating back to 1998, about 8% pay $3
to $6, 4% pay $6 to $8, 5% pay $8 to $10 and 13% pay more than $10 in
monthly fees. The ABA recommends consumers open free checking/savings
accounts, to use their own bank’s ATM machines to avoid fees, implement
direct deposit, maintaining at least the minimum balance and not to
overdraw.

Veracity Payment Adds a New Portfolio

Veracity Payment Solutions has acquired IL-based QCR Holdings’
Merchant Credit Card Acquiring business. The transaction will result in
an after-tax gain of
approximately $3.0 million in the third quarter of 2008. QCR Holdings
subsidiary, Quad City Bancard’s Merchant Credit Card Acquiring business
provides processing services to a network of small and medium-sized
businesses. Contracts
for processing are obtained either directly by Bancard’s sales
representatives, referrals from the Company’s four subsidiary banks, or
through acquiring relationships with agent banks. The Merchant Credit
Card Acquiring business consists of approximately 3,600 active merchant
relationships that generated over $380 million in total net sales

Continental Airlines is now offering alternative payment method
PayPal to purchase flights at continental.com.
Continental customers with a PayPal account can use several different
payment options to fund transactions, including PayPal account balances,
bank accounts, debit cards, and credit cards, all while keeping their
financial information private and secure. Continental,
together with Continental Express and Continental Connection, has more than
3,000 daily departures throughout the Americas, Europe and Asia, serving
140 domestic and 139 international destinations. More than 550 additional
points are served via SkyTeam alliance airlines. PayPal is an eBay company
holding more than 63 million active accounts in 190 markets and 19
currencies around the world.

One-Fourth of Students Have 2-3 Cards

According to a new poll for Western Union Payment Services, conducted
by Javelin Research of 502 participants ages 18-24, among the 84% of
college students who claim money management education, 50% are seeking
debt-reduction plans. Additional poll findings show 25% of students aged
18-21 have two to three credit cards, 29% have concerns paying bills,
15% claim debt concerns impact academic performance and 42% project at
least $10,000 in debt upon graduation, 22% of whom project a figure
greater than $30,000. In response, Western Union Payment Services is
recommending students avoid “Buy Now, Pay Later” plans, to consolidate
expenses on 1-2 credit cards, to join ‘opt-out lists,to pay bills on
time, arrange automatic payments, to create a monthly budget and to
research lowest card rates.

Contributing a projection of over 15 million euros added to its annual revenues, Gemalto has completed its acquisition of Keycorp’s smart card business that includes “MULTOS” products and services for A$25.7 million. Along with this acquisition comes KeyCorp’s business assets, IP portfolio, trademarks, Multos Ltd, its implementation of MULTOS smart card operating system, the “MULTOS” brand, the associated patents and the “Key Management Authority” that manages “MULTOS” card activations worldwide. Additionally, nearly 40 “MULTOS” experts will join Gemalto from Keycorp, which is headquartered in Sydney, providing financial institutions and payment processors electronic transaction solutions while Gemalto digital security had 2007 annual revenues of over 1.6 billion, more than 85 offices in 40 countries and about 10,000 employees.

JULY DEBT

Credit card outstandings were flat in July at GBP 54.1 billion, after adjustments of GBP 1.3 billion for net flows. Year-on-year credit card outstandings (not seasonally adjusted) were up slightly more than 1%. According to the The Bank of England, net credit card lending rose by GBP 300 million, below the increase in June. Net other loans and advances increased by GBP 800 million, above the June increase. The annual growth rate of consumer credit slowed by 0.1 percentage points to 6.8%; the three-month annualized growth rate rose by 0.1 percentage points to 6.1%. The increase in total net lending to individuals in July (GBP 4.3 billion) was above the increase in June, but below the
previous six-month average. The twelve-month growth rate slowed further, to 6.9%, and the three-month annualized growth rate fell by 0.8 percentage points to 3.8%. Within the total, the increase in net lending secured on dwellings (GBP 3.2 billion) was above the increase in June, but below the previous six-month average. The twelve-month growth rate slowed further, to 6.9%. The three month annualized growth rate fell by 1.0 percentage points to 3.4%.

SQUIDCARD EMONEY

The Dundee City Council has partnered with sQuid electronic money
(eMoney) operator to introduce the “sQuidcard eMoney Smart Money”
service to the citizens of Dundee, Scotland. Launched in partnership
with the Scottish National Entitlement Card (NEC), the Dundee City
Council has 38,000 of the cards, while 140,000 have been issued across
the region, for use as a low value transaction card and as a pre-pay
transit card. ‘sQuid’ will be available through the NEC as well as
independently through retailers. sQuidcard is a subsidiary of Nucleus
Limited internet and venturing business while “sQuid eMoney” is the
alternative to the debit and credit card networks for sub GBP10 tap and
go transactions.
