RENESAS WAVE

Renesas Technology and the city of Changchun, China have jointly carried
out a successful verification test of the world’s first commercial ITS
using public buses in the city throughout September. Renesas provided
the WAVE terminal platform that implements WAVE wireless communication
technology and confirmed the realization of WAVE communication used in
public buses. There are many efforts underway globally to implement ITS
that connect vehicles and the roads they drive on with a network to
resolve road and transportation problems such as traffic jams and road
accidents. Renesas developed the WAVE evaluation system in 2008 and has
participated in ITS verification testing at many locations.
Subsequently, according to Renesas, the WAVE technology will be able to
apply to safety monitoring of roads and public transportation systems.

AMC Entertainment Card to Employ wGift

CA-based Transaction Wireless has teamed with AMC Entertainment to offer
the “wGift” enhanced gift card program.
Transaction Wireless’ wGift will allow AMC’s guests to customize their
gift card giving experience with personalized mobile and e-mail
messaging, including text, recorded audio messages and images, delivered
to the recipient in real-time or at a specific time and date in the
future. Simply purchase a gift card online at www.amctheaters.com and
then personalize it for any special occasion by adding a personal note
via text and
voice recording, as well as an image or photo. The personalized gift
notification is sent to both the recipient’s mobile phone and e-mail
address and physical gift cards are mailed to redeem at theatres.
Cardholders can easily check card balances on
all AMC gift cards via a convenient text message to a balance inquiry
short code. As part of the agreement, AMC will be a part of Transaction
Wireless’
mobile marketing channel, allowing the company to send customized
promotional messages to consumers such as special pricing at specific

Fiserv Renews Navy Army FCU

Fiserv has renewed its contract for account processing with TX-based Navy Army Federal Credit Union.
Navy Army FCU is the 13th largest credit union in Texas with $865 million in assets. Since 1992, the credit
union has relied on the DataSafe account processing system from Fiserv,
while growing from $250 million in assets and 30,000 members. The
renewed Navy Army agreement includes new software, services and
development from Fiserv including solutions for online banking, bill
payment, wire transfer and fraud and risk.

American Consumer Confidence Waxes and Wanes

Consumer confidence which has been steadily growing over the summer, retreated slightly in September. Consumers’ short-term outlook was also
slightly more pessimistic. The Conference Board “Consumer Confidence
Index” now stands at 53.1, down from 54.5 in August. The “Present
Situation Index” decreased to 22.7 from 25.4. The “Expectations Index”
declined to 73.3 from 73.8 last month. Consumers’ assessment of current
conditions was less favorable in September. Those claiming business
conditions are “bad” increased to 46.3% from 44.6%, while those claiming
conditions are “good” increased to 8.7% from 8.5%. Those expecting more
jobs in the months ahead edged down to 17.9% from 18.0%, while those
expecting fewer jobs remained the same at 23.1%. The proportion of
consumers expecting an increase in their incomes increased slightly to
11.2% from 10.8%.

Javelin has released the results of a survey that focuses on the
opportunities for banks and credit unions to expand and refine personal
finance management tools.
The survey of more than 2,000 consumers in August underscores that banks
and credit unions are
in an ideal position to use online banking to provide a financial portal
that can help customers see all their accounts in one place in real
time, track and analyze their spending, and achieve their financial
goals.Javelin asked what methods do consumers typically use to manage
their finances
today; what methods would they prefer to use, what benefits and features
do they value most when it comes to
picking a money-management system,; who is winning the battle for
consumers: banks or PFM websites amd what is the return on investment
for PFM tools?
Financial institutions and online-banking vendors
generally have been slow to keep pace with their non-bank rivals,
forcing customers to look elsewhere for PFM tools – potentially
squandering their significant trust advantage with consumers.
