Laboratory for Materials Research” for card manufacturers seeking to use
rapidly advancing laser die cutting technology. This is for card punching or
creating internal cut features in loyalty cards, ID cards, access
control cards, financial cards, gift cards and similar card applications
can now determine if the materials they use can be handled by modern
laser die cutting technology by sending samples for engineering studies
and analyses. Spartanics laser die cutting applications engineers have
extensively tested laser die cutters with varying laser strengths and

Visa and Mastercard American credit cardholders racked up an estimated $1.4 trillion in gross dollar volume
last year. According to CardData, there were gains for both networks. Visa cardholders increased gross dollar volume $25 billion throughout 2009 to $220 billion by the 4th quarter. Meanwhile, Mastercard cardholders increased gross dollar volume $12 billion to $140 billion by 4Q/09. Visa posted U.S. credit card GDV of $952 billion in 2008 and $839 billion in 2009. First Data’s EVP and CFO Pat Shannon has announced his decision to
resign his positions. The Company will appoint current Senior Vice
President and Controller Ray E. Winborne as the acting Chief Financial
Officer of the Company, effective May 25, 2010, until such time that a
successor, for which Winborne will be considered as a candidate, is
appointed. He will continue to serve as the Companyâs principal
accounting officer until such time as a successor is appointed. Winborne
has been the Senior Vice President and Controller of the Company since
September 2009. Winborne was the Senior Vice President-Finance and
Controller of Delta Air Lines Inc. from April 2007 to September 2009 and
served as the Senior Vice President, CFO Southeast Region for AT&T, Inc.
from January 2007 to April 2007. Prior to that time,Winborne held
various positions in the finance group of BellSouth Corporation from
January 1999 to December 2006, most recently serving as BellSouthâs
Controller. From 1990 to 1999, Winborne was employed by the public
accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP.
ValidSoft is now marketing technology to improve banks’ ability to detect credit card fraud with its “VALid-POS” solution. With “VALid-POS,” credit and
debit card-issuing banks can save billions of dollars a year and reduce hassles for consumers. In doing so, the ValidSoft security solution accesses cell
phone information to determine the proximity of a card user to the actual card transaction in real-time. False positive card alerts cost banks up to $10
per case, as the bank’s fraud unit processes the transaction and calls you to try to verify its validity. The ValidSoft software determines the proximity
of the card owner’s cell phone to the actual location of the transaction. And in less than half a second, it can tell if the transaction is potentially
fraudulent or legitimate.
Windstream Communications has selected Chase Paymentech as its payment processing provider. This will allow Windstream telecommunication to offer its merchants card acceptance at exclusively negotiated rates. Operating as Windstream Merchant Services, the company will provide best in class, cost effective solutions for small and mid-sized businesses who need to accept credit and debit cards at the POS, via telephone or online. U.S. Bank has awarded customers $36,000 in
prizes as part of the U.S. Bank Get Ahead in 2010 promotion.
Small business and consumer U.S. Bank Visa credit and check cardholders
had a chance to win up to $10,000 every time they used their eligible
card during the promotion, which ran from Jan. 15, 2010 through Feb. 28,
2010. Two customers won a $10,000 grand prize. Two other customers won a
$5,000 Get Ahead in 2010 prize by using social media to encourage votes
on their story telling on how this prize would help them get ahead in
2010. Twelve customers won a $500 prize in the weekly drawing.
Cardholders registered their eligible card by visiting the promotion
website, allowing for chances to win a randomly-drawn $10,000 prize or a
$500 weekly prize. Then every time they used their card, they earned an
entry into the sweepstakes. Two sets of prizes were awarded â one for
small business and one for consumer cardholders. Cardholders also had the opportunity to earn $5,000 by submitting a
story on how they would use $5,000 to Get Ahead in 2010. They went on to
share their story with friends via Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter or email

Payment outsourcer TSYS has has extended its payment services agreement with a multi-year contract renewal with the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) for the processing of CIBC’s Visa consumer credit card portfolio. CIBC ranks as the number one issuer of credit cards in Canada based on dollar volumes outstanding, and TSYS processes over 44% of all Visa and MasterCard credit card accounts in Canada.Details
At the Smart Card Alliance annual conference, the United Nations
Federal Credit Union (UNFCU), explained how it is responding to the
needs of its international travelers with EMV and Wal-Mart, the largest U.S.
company, strongly advocated a move to chip and PIN.
Worldwide nearly one billion EMV cards have been issued and over half of these
are now non-European, due to the
phenomenal growth in the Americas and Asia over the last few years.
EMVCo is focused on preparing contactless and mobile EMV standards, he
reported. In his view, there is an excellent opportunity in the U.S.
market to utilize contactless technology online to improve security.
Wal-Mart is also interested in moving to EMV for security reasons.
Wal-Mart already has 100% of its payment system hardware equipped
to accept EMV chip and PIN, and is finalizing the software programs for
