Diebold Launches ATM Skim Protection Solution

Diebold has introduced its “ATM Security Protection Suite”, designed to provide effective countermeasures against known skimming
attack vectors. The suite offers five levels of protection to proactively guard
against increasingly sophisticated card-skimming attacks.
Level one offers basic protection and includes ATM card reader security
features specially designed to deter skimmer attachment. The second level includes Diebold’s award-winning skimming-detection
technology that generates an alert – directed either to the branch alarm
system or to the ATM network monitoring system – when a fraudulent
device has been added to the terminal. Protection levels three and four incorporate the latest and most
innovative skimming countermeasure in the industry. By emitting an
electromagnetic field to interfere with a skimmer’s ability to capture
magnetic-stripe data in both motorized and dip card readers, this
solution helps prevent the capture of card information. To offer this
technology, Diebold has leveraged its self-service and security
expertise and has also worked closely with TMD, a Netherlands-based
developer of anti-skimming technology. Protection level five also includes Diebold’s ATM “SkimmingAlert”
Monitoring Service, affording customers maximum protection.

Consumers Spend More on Jewelry & Luxury in May

In May, growth in eCommerce forged ahead of growth in brick and mortar
sales for an 8th consecutive month of double digit year-over-year
growth, with sales increasing 13.7% since the year ago period.
Meanwhile, luxury sales saw its 6th consecutive month of year-over-year
growth, posting a 9.7% increase. This, according to the “SpendingPulse”
national retail and service sales macro-economic indicator, based on
aggregate sales activity in the MasterCard payments network, also showed
jewelry reached a 6.4% increase. On the other side of the slope,
declines were seen in the Electronics and Appliances category, down 0.7%
year over year; Consumer Electronics was down by 0.8%; the Appliance
category remained flat; U.S. Apparel decreased 3.7% for second straight
negative month, mostly in Men’s Apparel, down 10.4%, Footwear by 7.3%,

INSIDE and CPI Get Discover Approval for Contactless Stickers

NFC provider INSIDE Contactless and card producers CPI Card Group have announced they have received type
approval from Discover for mpayment
stickers based on INSIDE’s “MicroPass 4002” contactless payment
processor. Incorporating the “Discover Zip” payment application, the
certified stickers contain all the functionality of a traditional
Discover credit, debit or prepaid card, and enable Discover card issuers
to offer their customers the additional convenience of using their
mobile phones or other portable devices to make contactless payments
anywhere using the Discover Zip standard. The “MicroPass 4002” chip became the first Discover-certified Zip
implementation on the market in 2007. These Discover stickers combine
the MicroPass 4002 with a uniquely tuned RF antenna in a compact prelam
that features an innovative shielding design that improves performance
in payment sticker applications.
With the MicroPass 4002, card manufacturers and issuers gain
leading-edge capabilities while preserving complete backwards
compatibility with existing personalization, acquiring and acceptance
devices.

HID Global Releases OMNIKEY 6221 USB Reader

Secure identity provider HID Global has introduced the “OMNIKEY 6221” USB reader.
The portable, dongle-sized USB smart card reader includes a removable
MicroSD flash memory slot and reader for subscriber identity module
(SIM)-sized contactless smart cards. OMNIKEY 6221 delivers data protection and secure content
issuance using encryption and digital signatures in conjunction with PIN
protection. This provides the assurance of two-factor authentication in
a pluggable, SIM-sized contact smart card format that is ideal for
protecting data and any licensed content that is used by today’s
increasingly mobile workforce. The removable SAM module gives
organizations the flexibility to re-use the reader by simply issuing a
new SAM module when needed. The “OMNIKEY 6221” measures 3.7 inches long by 1.02 inches wide by 0.59
inches high and is designed to meet all major
standards including ISO 7816, Microsoft® WHQL, USB CCID, PC/SC, HBCI
(Home Banking Computer Interface) and the PC-2001 specification. In
addition, it works on any operating-system platform supporting CCID and
USB removable media, without requiring any drivers to be installed.

TSYS Successfully Completes DnB NOR Kort Conversion

TSYS payment outsourcing has converted the Norway-based DnB NOR Bank MasterCard portfolio to the “TSYS’ PRIME” card and merchant management solution. TSYS provided the DnB NOR Kort credit-card operator a migration plan for its 2.2 million MasterCard credit cards, following a phased migration of its American Express cards, from a variety of external legacy systems to a single in-house PRIME solution. With support from TSYS, DnB NOR Kort was able to implement a SEPA-compliant solution with the flexibility needed to deliver cost-effective and leading-edge customer services. TSYS assisted the bank with project design, planning methodology and systems integration, helping DnB NOR Kort achieve secure, high-volume transaction processing. An additional 0.7 million cards, including DnB NOR Kort’s VISA cards, will be migrated to the PRIME platform in the final phase of the migration.
