Epson & G3S to present Biodegradable POS Display

Epson and G3S are set to highlight the qualities of biodegradable and recyclable “BioMedia PET” plastic materials developed by G3S for display and POS graphics. The Epson “Stylus Pro GS6000” inkjet printer will be printing a range of display graphics on BioMedia using eco-solvent type inks on the Epson booth. G3S’s BioMedia is available in a range of thickness and includes a new coated version for higher image quality. The material incorporates a micro-organism which, in dark and moist conditions, cuts through the polymer chain, accelerating the breakdown of the product so that it biodegrades within 2-5 years.

Fiserv granted US patent for Unified Managed Account

Fiserv has been granted a patent for its Unified Managed Account (UMA) solution by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The patent, the first ever for the Fiserv UMA solution, was awarded for the company’s technological method created for transferring cash between styles in a UMA account after a cash drift is determined. It focuses on the inter-sleeve cash transfer that resolves cash drift within a Multi-Strategy Portfolio (MSP) account. The patent covers the method of determining cash drift for each style and for flowing cash amongst the styles within each account to bring each style back to its target cash allocation.

Logica Names New GPB Director, APAC

Richard Davies was appointed APAC director for Logica Global Financial Products Business (GPB) to build Logica’s financial institution client base in the region and support clients in their payments modernization. In doing so, he will identify growth opportunities for global banks planning to expand their presence in the APAC market and further strengthen Logica’s relationships with its current APAC-based clients. Scotiabank debit cards based on the INSIDE solution and TD Merchant Services’ POS terminals have already been used to perform the “Flash” transactions. The Scotiabank debit cards use INSIDE’s” micropass 6008″ dual-interface payment microprocessor with the resident Interac Flash application. Interac is responsible for the development and operations of the Interac national payment network, allowing Canadians to access their money through automated banking machines and POS terminals.

Only 10% of Banks’ mBanking Solutions in Place

With only 10% of banks having already deployed mobile business banking services, and 39% will be deploying mobile services within 6-12 months, a very contrasting 57% of American banks are expected to offer a consumer mobile banking solution by the end of 2010. Only 26% expect a strong interest in mobile business banking services among their clients while nearly 60% said that curiosity was driving this interest. This, according to Fundtech poll of over 100 transaction banking executives from 53 US financial institutions, also showed 53% indicated fraud monitoring is a their biggest challenge in payment processing. Meanwhile, 23% said this was their business client’s biggest challenge; 23% felt that regulatory changes are their top challenge; 36% of respondents felt there was some potential in Social Networking in Business Banking, 32% were unsure and 23% felt it was a “ridiculous idea.”

Most Americans Reject Anti-Consumer Debit Amendment

Regarding regulation giving the federal government the ability to set the rates retailers pay for accepting debit products at the consumer’s expense, 83% are specifically oppose the amendment. Additionally, 60% believe retailers – not cardholders – should bear the fair cost of accepting credit and debit cards. The study, released by Visa, shows widespread skepticism toward this and other provisions put forth in a controversial amendment to the financial regulatory reform bill currently being negotiated in Congress. The amendment written by Senator Durbin proposes Americans who benefit from the security and convenience of electronic payments could find themselves forced to spend a minimum amount when they choose to pay for goods and services with a credit card, of which 68% of consumers are opposed and 55% are strongly opposed.
