Card Activation Notified on Reexamination

Card Activation Technologies announced on June 23 the United States Patent and Trademark Office issued a “Notice of Intent to Issue Reexamination Certificate” in the reexamination proceeding involving Card Activation Technologies’ U.S. Patent number 6,032,859 covering the processing of debit purchase transactions such as purchases using gift cards. The Notice confirms the Patent Office’s finding of patentable claims in the proceeding and its intent to issue a Reexamination Certificate confirming the patentability of those claims. Card is actively enforcing the ‘859 Patent against infringing retailers in multiple, ongoing lawsuits, and has entered into licensing agreements with numerous other retailers.

ABI Research has appointed John Devlin as Principal Analyst, Smart Cards and Embedded Security. Within ABI Research’s Smart Cards and Embedded Security Research Service, John Devlin will focus research and management efforts on markets and technologies for smart cards and chip cards, authentication, identification, payments, and data protection. His research focus has been on mobile, contactless/NFC, smart cards, payment acceptance and ID. Since 2001, he held positions of increasing seniority at IMS Research in the UK, eventually becoming Research Director, Financial & I.D. eBay Makes New Apps Available Internationally

eBay online marketplace has international released its “eBay Selling” and its “eBay for iPad” applications. The “Selling” application is now available in Germany and the United Kingdom, and the “eBay for iPad” application is now translated into French, Italian, German and Spanish for international users and is currently available through Apple’s 77 iTunes(R) App Stores. This developemnt will allow sellers in Germany and the United Kingdom to leverage eBay’s Selling iPhone application to sell items on their local eBay marketplaces. The latest version of the “eBay Selling” application is the first of eBay’s suite of mobile applications to integrate the accurate RedLaser barcode-scanning technology. eBay sellers in Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States will now be able to quickly create listings by simply scanning an item’s barcode to access pricing trends, product details and list items from eBay’s catalog for sale.
