QIB MASTERCARD DEBIT

MasterCard Worldwide announced a 5 year Premium debit agreement with Qatar Islamic Bank (QIB) Islamic bank MasterCard issuer. The strategic agreement will streamline QIB’s Premium Debit MasterCard issuance, while offering more benefits and enhanced insight as the Bank manages its premium debit portfolio. Initiated to provide added value to QIB’s premium customers, the MasterCard-QIB agreement will give customers the flexibility, convenience and security they have come to expect when using MasterCard cards. QIB will issue PIN based Premium Debit Cards to its VVIP and affluent client base.

CUs Having Deployed Fiserv mMoney Hits 150 Mark

Fiserv financial services technology solutions announced 150 credit unions to date have implemented its “Mobile Money,” 84 of which are already live. The “Mobile Money” solution allows credit union members the flexibility to use any mobile device to check account balances and history, transfer funds, pay bills, and track account activity. It supports SMS (text messaging), mobile browser, and downloadable applications and is available as an in-house solution or hosted by Fiserv through an application service provider (ASP) model. The ASP version of “Mobile Money” offers a cost-effective option requiring little administration on the credit union’s part and implements industry standard data encryption, along with additional risk management safeguards. Brian C. Toohey took office as president of the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA). The People’s Bank of China will issue licenses to non-bank payment and settlement gateways commencing this September. All third-party payment agencies in China are required to submit an application along with their financial reports and client information in order to receive this license, subject to the central bank approval. This is the first time that the central bank has authorized service providers, other than banks, to participate in online payment collection through Internet, top-up phone cards and digital TV.

Card Activation Receives Notice from Patent Office

The United States Patent and Trademark Office issued a “Notice of Intent to Issue Reexamination Certificate” in the reexamination proceeding involving Card Activation Technologies’ U.S. Patent number 6,032,859, covering the processing of debit purchase transactions such as purchases using gift cards. This confirms the Patent Office’s finding of patentable claims in the proceeding and its intent to issue a Reexamination Certificate confirming the patentability of those claims. Card is actively enforcing the ‘859 Patent against infringing retailers in multiple, ongoing lawsuits, and has entered into licensing agreements with numerous other retailers.
