Cardtronics Forms New Strategy and Executives

Cardtronics non-bank owner of ATM will now be separated into “Network and Financial Services” and “ATM Services” business units to facilitate more productive operations. With this, a number of executive appointments have taken place, including Rick Updyke as the role of President of the combined United States Business Group; Ben Psillas as Executive VP and Division Executive for the Company’s Network and Financial Services business unit. In addition to Cardtronics’ Allpoint surcharge-free ATM network, this business unit will include other products and services, including the Company’s bank branding and financial institution managed services offerings, as well as future products and services designed to leverage the Company’s network of prime retail ATM locations. Meanwhile, Tres Thompson will become Executive Vice President and Division Executive for the Company’s ATM Services business unit to oversee expanding the Company’s domestic retail ATM network and for implementing strategic initiatives to further leverage and grow the revenues generated by the Company’s domestic ATMs.

Mountain America Adds Bluepoint mCheck Deposit

Mountain America Credit Union has added Bluepoint’s mobile remote deposit capture capabilities to its mobile banking platform. Allowing members to securely deposit checks with a camera-equipped smart phone, providing the added convenience of anytime, anywhere deposits, the user can now deposit checks from a smart phone by keying in the deposit amount and then take photos of the front and back of the check. The application then automatically performs multiple quality assurance and image correction functions to minimize image distortions. All transactions are transmitted with multiple layers of security and can be traced back to registered smart phones, marked with time and location, to combat fraud.

SCA Launches Smart Card Training and Certification

The Smart Card Alliance international Certified Smart Card Industry Professional (CSCIP) preparation course and exam will be held this year at the CARTES & IDentification event in Paris, France. The certification training course and exam will take place at the Paris Nord Villepinte exhibition center on December 6th and December 9th, respectively. The CSCIP training documentation has been updated with content on international technology standards and global implementations to support the expansion of this international exam, which will grant a CSCIP designation for those who pass. Currently there are more than 100 international LEAP members and 56 certified CSCIPs.

American Express and SAP Launch Integrated Payment

American Express and SAP AG have forged a joint effort to develop an integrated solution enabling SAP customers to process electronic payments more seamlessly with American Express. With this, the partnership is seeking to alleviate the delay or determent of the corporate adoption of electronic payments. Designed to help organizations drive process efficiencies without the need for large-scale, up-front development investments, the combined solution will feature a “plug-and-play” utility to enable SAP customers to adopt electronic payments quickly and easily. By integrating payments solutions with the underlying technology that powers an organization’s business processes, corporations can enhance controls and optimize the timing of their payments, thereby improving their working capital. The integrated solution combines the power of the Buyer Initiated Payments solution from American Express with process integration (PI) technology from the SAP NetWeaver® technology platform. PI technology will maintain payment data integrity and the workflows and approval processes that customers are already running on SAP software.

Zebra Technologies has introduced its “ZXP Series 8” Secure Issuance printer this week at the Bank Administration Institute (BAI) Retail Delivery Conference. Addressing global industry requirements for on-demand printing of payment cards, the “ZXP Series 8” retransfer card printer technology provides fast on-site card printing. It is capable of printing fully activated debit, credit and ATM cards on flat, non-embossed cards. This can be done directly onsite at the financial institution for instantaneous, on-the-spot issuance, saving customers the wait time generally associated with having a new or replacement card centrally printed and mailed.

Sage Payment Solutions payments division for Sage North America has partnered with ROAM Data mobile commerce solutions to offer integrated mobile payments offering for small and midsized businesses (SMBs). Offering Sage customers convenient and secure payment options for payment card acceptance on hundreds of different types of mobile phones and other mobile computing devices, ROAM Data’s mobile payment application “ROAMpay” is being integrated with the PA-DSS certified payments platform. Using “ROAMpay” lets Sage customers to process payment card orders; use an optional low-cost card reader for Card Present transaction rates; log cash orders, download reports online, and email receipts to their customers; rapidly change applications or add features to mobile apps that may benefit them; and provides integration with their Sage accounting solution.

Bankruptcies Up 3.3% M/M, 4.4% Y/Y

September US consumer bankruptcy filings were up 3.3% to 130,329 from the
August figure of 127,028 and up 4.4% on the year ago figure of 124,790.
So far this year, over 1 million consumers have filed for protection,
translating to about one in every 110 households, and this number is on
track to hit 1.6 million by the end of 2010. These findings, according to
the American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI), also show Chapter 13 filings
constituted 30% of all consumer cases in September, a slight increase
from August. Meanwhile, throughout the first nine months of the year,
U.S. consumer bankruptcy filings were up 11% for the first nine months
of year, for a total of 1,165,172 filings nationwide, compared to the
total 2009 figure of 1,046,449 consumer filings.

The acquisition reinforces DIGIPAY Group’s wide range of technology and features. MoneyGram & Ceridian to Process Remittance

MoneyGram International and Ceridian Stored Value Solutions (Ceridian SVS) global prepaid services have signed partnership agreements. With this, Ceridian SVS will provide the processing for MoneyGram’s “in-lane” prepaid money transfers. The MoneyGram and Ceridian SVS arrangement will assist MoneyGram in its proposed offering of an in-lane prepaid money transfer product that allows funds to be transferred in up to 40 countries around the world including Canada, Hong Kong, Russia, the United Kingdom, the United States and countries in the European Union. This broad reaching agreement is a first for the money transfer industry. MoneyGram intends for this prepaid money transfer product to expand its remittance service into retail, petroleum and convenience stores.

Fiserv financial services technology announced Center Bank is now live on its “Premier” bank platform. “Premier” from Fiserv is the core banking solution with the largest customer base in North America and for which outsourced processing is provided directly from Fiserv. Center Bank was processed by an independent data center that licensed Premier from Fiserv, but has chosen to outsource its account processing through a Fiserv data center.
