Dynamics’ Card 2.0 Awarded for Innovation

Dynamics “Card 2.0” technology has been named the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) Best of Innovations Winner for Personal Electronics. CES is the world’s largest consumer technology tradeshow and is sponsored by the Consumer Electronics Association®.

“This is just the beginning. We will continue to deliver innovative and exciting functionality to the consumer.”

Products entered in this prestigious awards program are judged by a preeminent panel of independent industrial designers, engineers and members of the media to honor outstanding design and engineering in cutting-edge consumer electronics products across various categories. Best of Innovations winners are products that received the top score in their respective category.

Dynamics’ core technology, Card 2.0®, is a paper-thin, flexible computing platform in a payment card form factor. The device includes the Electronic Stripe™ — the world’s first fully card-programmable magnetic stripe. The Electronic Stripe™ can be read at any existing point-of-sale (POS) magnetic stripe reader. The device itself can change any bit of information on this programmable stripe at any given time. The device is as durable as a traditional payment card and will last over four years on a single battery charge. The technology does not require any change to the 60 million 1970s-era magnetic stripe readers or reeducation of its merchant base.

“We’re humbled to receive this prestigious award from CES and excited at the personal connection our technology made with this best-in-class judging panel,” said Jeffrey Mullen, CEO of Dynamics Inc. “This is just the beginning. We will continue to deliver innovative and exciting functionality to the consumer.”

Dynamics Card 2.0® will be exhibited at the 2011 International CES, which runs Jan. 6-9, 2011 in Las Vegas, Nev. The product will also be included in the Innovations Showcase in the grand lobby of the Las Vegas Convention Center and will also be featured at CES Unveiled: The Official Press Event of the International CES on Tuesday, Jan. 4.

About Dynamics’ Technology

Countless applications can be realized with the Card 2.0® platform technology and are referred to as Payments 2.0® applications. Payments 2.0® applications include:

MultiAccount™: The device includes two buttons on the face of a card. Next to each button is a printed account number and a light source. A user can select an account by pressing one of the buttons. The card visually indicates the selection by turning ON the light source associated with the selected account. Additionally, the magnetic-stripe information associated with the selected account is written to the Electronic Stripe™.

Hidden™: The device includes five buttons on the face of a card and a paper-thin flexible display. The display hides a portion of a cardholder’s payment card number. To turn the device ON, a user must enter a personal unlocking code into the card. If the user enters in the correct unlocking code, the card will then visually display the user’s payment card number so that the user can read the number for online transactions. The Electronic Stripe™ is then populated with the correct magnetic information so that the card can also be used with magnetic stripe readers. After a period of time, the display turns OFF and the Electronic Stripe™ erases itself – thus removing all critical payment information from the surface of the card. If the card is lost or stolen, the card is essentially useless.

Redemption™: The face of the device is printed with a single credit account number and includes two buttons with associated light sources. A user can choose whether to use points or use credit at the point of sale by pressing the appropriate button. The card will then visually indicate the selection by turning ON the light source associated with the selected option. The magnetic-stripe information associated with the payment option is then written to the Electronic Stripe™. The card can then be swiped at any magnetic stripe reader.

Dynamic Credit Card™: A unique security code is written to the Electronic Stripe™ every time the card is activated. A display may be added to the card such that a unique security code is also displayed every time the card is used. These displayed and in-stripe security codes eradicate fraud associated with stolen, or “skimmed,” intangible card numbers.

M-Dot Network Deploys eCoupon Network

Hiller’s Markets has successfully launched the first digital coupon platform that does not rely on any additional in-store infrastructure or hardware within the store headquarters. The new POS Digital Coupon technology is powered by M-Dot Network, a digital incentive processing company providing retailers with an enterprise platform for managing the issuance, precision marketing and real-time redemption of digital coupons and offers.
Hiller’s Markets new program, marketed as Click And Save at Hiller’s (C.A.S.H.), enables shoppers to receive digital coupons via the retailer’s web site or their mobile phone. The M-Dot Network platform is completely unique in its ability to quickly process digital coupons in sub-second response time without requiring additional hardware, networks or other infrastructure to be installed in a retailer’s store or headquarters.
According to Bill Catania, CEO, M-Dot Network, “The M-Dot Network application is seamlessly integrated on the Retalix ISS45 Version 8 point of sale base code; Hiller’s did not have to create any custom code or integration points whatsoever. M-Dot offers a secure, real-time transaction network connecting Internet and mobile based applications to retail point of sale systems. The network utilizes existing in-store systems with no need for additional in-store hardware or infrastructure.”
M-Dot Network has built an open standard and secure platform with an API for integrating virtually any Mobile or Internet-based content provider with a retailer. “M-Dot Network removes the pain points for retailers by providing a single point of integration, centralized security and compliance, and a common method of redeeming incentives that simplifies the shopping experience for Hiller’s customers,” said Jim Hiller, CEO, Hiller’s Markets.

During his presentation, DeVincenzi will highlight the emergence of highly secure, multi-technology ID systems as cutting edge integrated ID solutions. Multi-technology secure IDs are attracting increased interest from governments worldwide as they seek to combine multi-functionality with the best attributes of today’s secure ID credentials: high security, durability, and ease of authentication – even without electronic readers – in applications ranging from e-government to Patient ID to border crossing.

“World-class ID programs require world-class identity credentials. The convergence of real-world demands, innovative manufacturing techniques and adaptable technologies is enabling this exciting concept to become a reality for an increasing number of governments,” said Robert DeVincenzi, LaserCard’s president and CEO. “Based upon LaserCard’s success in this area, we see multi-technology IDs as a powerful new breed of solution that enables customized, multi-purpose programs with many potential benefits.”

DeVincenzi will describe the potential benefits of combining increased security, utility and intelligence on a single platform, including the ability to go beyond ID verification to provide a single-point solution for multiple user needs and the potential to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of government ID. Increased ROI may be achieved through streamlined administration, reduced cost, improved user utility, more efficient service delivery and the potential to leverage existing infrastructure investments.

LaserCard’s innovative integration of its highly counterfeit-resistant optical security media platform with other mainstream smart card technologies on a single ID card is being adopted by governments around the world. DeVincenzi will discuss LaserCard’s new U.S. Green Card, the Carabinieri (Italian Police Force) ID Card and the Saudi Arabia National ID Card, which are models of the effective layering of multiple ID technologies in the highest security applications.

Earlier this year, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security began issuing the new Green Cards, which feature LaserCard’s advanced optical security media, and for the first time, RFID tags for compliance with the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative. The United States Citizen and Immigration Services (USCIS) and USCIS official Sandra Schatz Landis were recently honored by GSN for the effectiveness of the new U.S. Green Card program.

The CEO & Investors Forum is a platform designed for industry leaders to present and debate their philosophies and the challenges of moving beyond today’s secure identity models and paradigms. Americans Holiday Shopping to Average $710

This holiday, Americans will spend an average of $710, $1,384 for those who earn $100,000 annually. Women will particularly power the holiday shopping season with 100% of those surveyed planning to hit the stores while 12% of men have no holiday shopping plans. Both male and female consumers’ intentions to “give back” continues to make a comeback from 63% in the year ago period to 67%. With 51% planning to finish holiday shopping one week before Christmas, 5% will shop on Christmas Eve; 53% plan to give gift cards; 50% will gift clothing; 43% will gift toys; and 20% will spend the most on electronics and gadgets with an average ticket price of $316. This, according to the latest American Express “Spending & Saving Tracker,” also indicates 80% of those earning more than $100,000 annually plan to make a charitable contribution; 41% will donate money to an organization, compared to 36% in 2009; 31% will purchase gift or grocery items for the needy, for no change from the year prior; and 22% will volunteer, compared to 18% in 2009.

Recent research indicates 70% of consumers intend to spend less on credit cards this year, only 11% of which anticipate they will be tempted to do so. However, with 55% putting just about all of their Xmas expenditure on a credit card, 52% disclosed they paid off their credit card bills in full each month. With this, 91% felt that interest rates on credit cards were a rip off and 59% agreed with the statement ‘If I had any sense, I’d cut up my credit cards’. This research is accordingly an indication consumers are getting more financially sensible in the recession, albeit waning.
