Nordea joins BankID

Nordea has decided to join the BankID electronic identification infrastructure and is to start to issue BankID electronic identifications, which is supported by nine Swedish banks. The majority of these banks also use BankID for electronic identification and signing at their Internet banks. At present there are 3.8 million active users of electronic identifications in Sweden, as well as a 1 000 services. With current growth a total of 4.5 million is anticipated by the end of 2011. BankID electronic identification in Sweden is based on the PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) technical standard and has been developed by a number of large banks for use by members of the public, authorities and companies.

Czech Bank card Association joins EAST

The Czech Bank Card Association (BCA)- originally formed in 1991 as the Interbank Payment Card Association- has just joined EAST (the European ATM Security Team) as the national representative member for the Czech Republic. The BCA initiative is to coordinate activities of the Czech banking community and to promote the development of payment cards, including preparations for the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA). The BCA Security Committee deals with the issues of security and security standards in the area of payment cards, takes action against payment card fraud, and delegates co-operate with their counterparts from individual payment card issuers and processors and with the international card companies and the Czech police authorities. Both Canada and Russia are represented at EAST as non-SEPA members and EAST is seeking to establish links with parties in any country, able to share national incident and loss statistics for ATM related fraud and physical attacks.

Retailers mPOS Growth Exponential

POS terminals are becoming a thing of the past as retailers are beginning to connect customers with store associates through their own social network, the store’s home office and even perhaps the merchandise vendor with the emergence of mobile POS technologies. With more than 50% of retailers intending to launch mobile solutions within the next two years, untethered mobile devices are becoming an important tool for retailers to connect with customers and grow their business. Bluepoint Record 2010 Fueled by mBanking Demand

Bluepoint Solutions RDC and item processing for financial institutions posted a 32% increase in the total number of new direct clients and an existing customer renewal rate of over 95% in 2010. Small Business DSS Survey Enlightening

With 86% of retailers concerned with keeping their customer card information secure and feel payment card data security is important to their business, 64% believe their business is not vulnerable to credit/debit card data theft and 60% are unaware of the costs they could incur in the event of a breach. Moreover, 66% claimed awareness of the PCI DSS while only 49% completed a self-assessment while 4% have fallen victim to data breach. However, 42% did not know that merchants are obligated to conduct the self-assessment annually and 41% had not heard of the recent change in regulations. This, according to the National Retail Federation and First Data research, also showed more than 60% of these smaller merchants did not realize that credit card companies are authorized to fine their business a per-card fee for every card that has to be canceled if it is determined that they are the source of a data breach. According to the 2009 U.S. Cost of a Data Breach Study by the Ponemon Institute, the average cost for merchants coping with a data breach in 2009 rose to $6.7 million with the cost per customer record breached estimated at $204. With this, 76% demonstrated restricting physical access to cardholder data and using anti-virus software were the two most frequently reported protection methods; 67% restricted access to cardholder data by business need to know; and 64% developed and maintained secure systems and applications.

Gemalto, WAVE Systems, and Alpha Discuss Security Solutions

Addressing the necessity for security, Gemalto security discloses Online Banking and Online Authentication growth stems from the need to replace passwords with a stronger form of identification and authentication. WAVE Systems, meanwhile, announced that it has received $5.2 million in additional license and maintenance orders through its PC OEM partners on behalf of a U.S.-based automotive company. Doug Schneider has been appointed President and CEO with Transaction Wireless(TW) virtual and mobile gift cards. Bringing with him more than 20 years’ business experience to his new role, Schneider was most recently CEO of Genea where he transformed a legacy building control system integration business into a leading, software-as-a-service (SaaS) smart building company, after having served as president of the Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Hosting Business Unit at publicly traded Verio. He graduated from the University of California, Davis, with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and received his MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

Arthur Wong has joined IronKey computing solutions as its CEO.
