HSBC Recognized for Anti-Payment Fraud

HSBC Merchant Services of Global Payments has been awarded the ‘Best Security or Anti-Fraud Development’ Award at the 2011 Card & Payments Awards. Recognizing customer service, excellence and innovation among its members in the card payments industry across the UK and Ireland the award ceremony saw HSBC beat out Bank of America, Lloyds banking group, Moneybookers and Nationwide for the award. HSBC Merchant Services won the award for its launch of Commidea’s Ocius Sentinel solution in the UK, supporting a major advance in security and a step-change in the ease of PCI DSS compliance for merchants who take in-store transactions. Global mTransaction Volume Almost $1 Trillion by 2014

The total value of global mobile transactions is now projected to hit $984 billion by 2014, up from $162 billion in 2010. With EMEA leading all regions with 42% of worldwide active mobile banking users, followed by 38% in Asia-Pacific, 16% in North America; and only 4% in Latin America, Asia-Pacific is slated to lead by 2014 with its active mobile bank users accounting for 54% of m-banking customers. Additional findings show EMEA will account for 32%, North America will drop to 10% of users and Latin America will still only account for 4%. These findings are according to Yankee Group’s mobile transaction forecast tracks metrics on mobile banking, international and domestic remittances, contactless cards, mobile coupons and NFC communications, which also shows mobile coupon usage will explode from 2.7 million in 2010 to nearly 35 million in 2014 and the number of NFC-enabled phones will grow from just 834,000 in 2010 to 151 million in 2014.

Cineplex Offers PayPal mPayment Option

Cineplex Entertainment now offers guests the option to use PayPal when purchasing tickets to a movie or other form of entertainment at Cineplex Entertainment theatres. A PayPal account can be used to purchase tickets from www.Cineplex.com, the Cineplex Mobile Apps, or through its mobile site m.cineplex.com. From February 10-17, 2011, guests who purchase $20 CAD or more in tickets for Cineplex theatres using their PayPal account will receive $10 CAD cash back to their PayPal account. This allows guests to complete transactions using their PayPal account balance, bank account or credit card. When purchasing a ticket for a movie or an event at Cineplex Entertainment theatres, guests can select PayPal as the payment option after they have chosen the show time and entered the quantity of tickets. They are then transferred to PayPal’s secure Web site where they then log in to their PayPal account and confirm the transaction.

NXP Launches Smart Card Security Authentication

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, NXP Semiconductors has kicked off its “au10tic” secure IC microcontrollers for device authentication. Based on NXP’s security technology, the “au10tic” ICs provide a complete tamper-resistant security solution including key generation and programming services, as well as the option for remote management of applications and credentials running on the secure MCU. The NXP “au10tic” secure ICs can be used for counterfeit protection; for authentication of devices and users accessing secure content and services; and for device identification to enable secure machine-to-machine communication. The authentication chips can be integrated to smartphones, laptops and tablets to game consoles and electronic accessories. NXP Semiconductors has approximately 28,000 employees working in more than 25 countries and posted sales of USD 3.8 billion in 2009.

SelectCore Updates Progress on Refinancing

Concerning its refinancing efforts, SelectCore payment and transaction processor for prepaid telecom and financial services has been in discussions and has received multiple term sheets and commitment letters from interested lenders. The Company is currently evaluating its options, but at this time has not accepted nor is it certain that it will accept any financing offer. SelectCore also negotiated an amendment to its loan agreement with ComVest Capital II that eliminated any prepayment penalty. In consideration for this, among other amendments, the Company agreed to repay the $2.5M term loan by March 31, 2011 and the $2.5M revolving line of credit by December 31, 2011. The Company subsequently paid down $1.25M of the term loan in Q4 2010, leaving $1.25M due March 31, 2011.

mBlox Delivers 4.4B Global Transactions in 2010

TD Bank is introducing its TD “Payment Plus” Credit Card to help customers who carry a balance manage their money by offering rewards for responsible credit card payment behavior. The card gives users the opportunity to receive a monthly credit provided they make a payment of at least 5% of their outstanding balance by the payment due date with a standard interest rate. TD Bank “Payment Plus” helps users become more responsible for interest charges and debt obligations; offers the flexibility to choose to make a larger payment and get an interest-charge savings without getting locked into payment terms that may not be right for their budget; and rewards them for paying down balances. The new card also offers automatic rewards if they make a payment larger than the minimum balance.
