Jim Stoneham has been named Payvment Chief Operating Officer, the eCommerce platform on Facebook. Having recently led the Yahoo! Communities business, Stoneham was also part of the core team that re-defined Yahoo!’s social strategy, driving both the partnerships with Facebook and Twitter and subsequent integration across Yahoo! properties. He spent over 20 years building class-leading consumer products and services at companies including Apple, Kodak, and a number of startups. He was also a founder and partner at Tangibility, a consulting firm that worked with a number of early-stage startups to grow their businesses.

American Express will host a series of events for employees and customers as part of a month-long celebration of the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day (IWD). Gemalto partners STMicroelectronics for secure NFC

STMicroelectronics secure microcontroller ICs and Gemalto digital security have partnered to develop a range of solutions to initiate and distribute digital security services for NFC (Near Field Communications) applications. Building on the two companies’ extensive security expertise and portfolio of NFC technologies, the partnership aims to deliver solutions that will meet the strong global demand for NFC-based services. They plan to further develop a number of additional packaged offers that include the highly secure ST33 EAL5+ chipset from ST, specially designed for mobile applications, and Gemalto’s secure operating system, mobile handset software, Trusted Service Management and secure personalization services.

Tesco & WorldPay Continue Payment Partnership

Tesco has become the latest retailer to renew its commercial partnership with WorldPay payments acquirer. With this, WorldPay’s “Streamline” face to face payments will continue to provide Tesco with its Visa card acquiring service for its stores across the UK and the Republic of Ireland and for its Tesco.com services. Tesco placed great emphasis on securing a partner that was able to provide its stores with a system that was both highly reliable and fast. Aconite Launches Prepaid mPayment Solution

Proxama and Aconite smart card software services have launched their Mobile Prepaid solution. Extending the capability of the solution Aconite recently implemented for the South African Transit project. Customers can use the new range of NFC mobile phones in the same way as contactless chip cards to transact with contactless acceptance devices, such as those being deployed in South Africa’s public taxi-buses. Aconite’s Prepaid Value Manager (PVM) solution can be implemented alongside any existing payment infrastructure to handle the complex processing needed to support the ‘on-card’ value used in EMV based contactless products. These products can be issued on regular chip cards or on mobile phones and other token types (‘smart devices’).

Digital River Appoints New President

Digital River global e-commerce solutions has appointed its CFO, Tom Donnelly, to President. With this, he will lead global e-marketing, sales and client delivery organisations for the company’s core enterprise commerce businesses. He joined Digital River in 2005 as the company’s treasurer and vice president of finance. Four months later, he was promoted to CFO with responsibility for worldwide finance, human resources, investor relations and legal matters. Over the past year, Donnelly has been managing the company’s delivery and IT organisations. He has been a vital part of Digital River’s leadership team and has worked closely with senior executives and the board of directors to set the company’s strategic direction. He will also continue as CFO for the time being.

MasterCard Appoints Group Executive, Global Prepaid Solutions

Ron Hynes has been appointed MasterCard Worldwide group executive, Global Prepaid Solutions. He was most recently group head, Expert Sales, responsible for U.S. Markets Prepaid, Commercial and Public Sector, since 2006 when he joined MasterCard. Prior to this, he served as executive vice president, Sales and Strategy at FSV Payment Systems where he was responsible for the strategic direction and overall sales/business development efforts for the Prepaid Debit solutions provider. Prior to FSV, he worked for JP Morgan Chase/Bank One as senior vice president, Prepaid Card Solutions. In his new role, he will be responsible for leading the development of prepaid programs around the globe that create a competitive advantage for MasterCard and its customers.

PCI Security Standards Advises on Phone-Based Payments

The PCI Security Standards Council released an educational resource on PCI DSS requirements for securing cardholder data in audio recordings. The “Protecting Telephone-Based Payment Card Data Information Supplement” provides actionable recommendations to merchants and service providers for securely processing payment card data over the telephone. The PCI Security Standards are designed to protect payment card data within merchant and service provider environments and require appropriate measures to protect any systems that store, process and/or transmit cardholder data. Along with face to face or ecommerce environments, the PCI Standards apply to organizations with call center operations where credit card information processed over the phone may be recorded and stored, exposing cardholder data to potential risk.
