Bank of America to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions by 15%

Bank of America announced an ambitious new goal to reduce its absolute greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 15 percent from 2011 to 2015, based on its 2010 baseline. This goal spans all of the company’s global operations in more than 40 countries and builds on its previous GHG reduction of 18 percent between 2004 and 2009, which had focused on legacy Bank of America operations in the U.S. Factoring in the addition of Countrywide and Merrill Lynch, the new target represents an overall global reduction in aggregate GHG emissions of more than 30 percent from the 2004 baseline. This is equal to annual emissions of more than 700,000 metric tons CO2-equivalent or said another way, equal to eliminating the annual GHG emissions from more than 124,000 passenger vehicles. Bank of America also announced that 20% of its corporate workplace real estate portfolio will be certified under the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED(R) (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating system by 2015.

Monitise partners Jetco and PCCW for mobile money

PCCW mobile customers in Hong Kong will soon be able to top-up their mobile account directly and securely via a new app from their smartphone following a collaboration with Monitise, the leading enabler of Mobile Money solutions, and its local partner Jetco (Joint Electronic Teller Service Limited). Leveraging its connection to JETCO, which provides payment services to the majority of banks in Hong Kong, Monitise Asia Pacific has entered into a landmark deal with Hong Kong’s PCCW mobile to offer customers the ability to recharge any prepaid PCCW mobile from their smartphones. The tie-up sees PCCW mobile become Monitise Asia Pacific’s first customer in Hong Kong, with the debut mobile top-up service due in the coming months. The new app will enable users to top-up their own prepaid voice and data plans and those of their friends and family.

VeriFone Kicksoff Pay-at-Pump System

VeriFone Systems announced a contract to supply its unattended pay-at-the-pump and digital media solution with Petline Petroleum. The petroleum distributor will begin implementing VeriFone’s “MX760” unattended payment solution at its SELFSTOP self-service dispensers. Turkey is one of Europe’s leading credit card markets, but until now consumers have not been able to utilize pay-at-the-pump technologies. VeriFone is first to deliver automated payment solutions for Turkey’s retail petroleum market, which has an estimated 75,000 fuel dispensers. Petline can utilize the payment system screens to display commercials and promotional videos as customers are fueling their vehicles. VeriFone delivers a variety of payment solutions designed to meet the needs of petroleum retailers worldwide and make it easy for marketers to accept credit, debit, check, EBT and smart card payments.

Ingenico Sees Mach Speed Expansion

Ingenico payment solutions announced its Fujian Landi affiliate in China is making strides, with the Bank of China (BOC) having resumed in April its 2011 purchase plan of POS terminals, confirming Landi as its first supplier. Smaller banks such as CMSB (China Minsheng Bank) have also started to develop POS acquiring services. Landi has been chosen as the most important provider of CMSB. This makes Landi the largest provider in the secure electronic payments industry in the country with an estimated market share of 35%.

NCR Corporation new “APTRA Interactive Teller” technology now lets consumers video conference with live, remote bank tellers directly from the ATM. Implementing uGenius Technology video banking solutions, NCR has integrated two-way video conferencing into its “SelfServ 32 ATMNCR” to allow financial institutions to extend branch hours by providing teller support from a self-service device. ATM users can either implement the standard self-service ATM functionality or choose the Interactive Teller interface at the ATMs, which also offer intelligent deposit, bill pay and new account or loan initiation. To date, more than 1,300 financial institutions in more than 130 countries around the world have purchased NCR SelfServ ATMs.

MasterCard Worldwide announced Ajay Bhalla has been appointed president of DataCash-which MasterCard acquired in 2010- and will now be responsible for all of MasterCard’s Commerce Gateway Services. Bhalla will provide leadership and management for MasterCard’s global end-to-end Gateway processing solutions organizations and the associated DataCash Fraud Tool and Risk Management services.
