NCR Corporation launched its Advanced Store software that will help retailers bridge the gap between digital and physical channels and enhance their ability to market to consumers at the POS. This will deliver personalized, preference-based offers and promotions to customers at checkout through native integration with the NCR Advanced Marketing Solution, NCR’s promotions and offer management software. This lets retailers cost-effectively power loyalty programs, create offers and drive cross-selling initiatives directly at the POS. The unification of digital and physical channels is further facilitated through technology integration with inventory management software from VendorNet Inc., which now provides retailers a cost-effective, out-of-the-box solution to link their e-commerce channels with store inventory, enabling consumers to buy on-line and pick up in store.

AJB to Offer PayPal for Retail Payment Processing

AJB Software Design integrated payment solutions announced its relationship with PayPal to offer POS app programming interfaces (APIs). AJB’s Retail Transaction Switch (RTS) will provide the framework to allow the millions of PayPal account numbers to be processed as financial tender by existing and future customers of AJB. PayPal members will have the option of paying for merchandise by swiping a PayPal payment card or by entering the mobile telephone number and PIN associated with their accounts.

SafeNet Launches Optical Signing Device

SafeNet data protection made available a new identity and transaction protection solution that addresses multiple levels of risk associated with online banking and trading transactions. Its “eToken 3500” electronic signing and strong authentication token-based device will enable financial services organizations to successfully achieve the right balance of risk mitigation, cost-effectiveness, and usability when securing eBanking applications. The SafeNet eToken 3500 uses an optical sensor to read financial transaction data from a Web browser, generating a unique electronic signature that validates each transaction, reducing threats such as Man-in-the-Browser (MitB) and Man-in-the-Middle (MitM), in which hackers hijack legitimate user identities during a transaction and redirect funds. This lets customers generate an electronic signature for transactions; reduce the chances of financial fraud resulting from MitM and MitB threats; automatically scan encrypted transaction details, preventing typing errors; and maintain secure remote access to networks, applications, and Web-based services.

Saks Fifth Avenue Pilots Cornell-Mayo mPOS

Saks Fifth Avenue is piloting Cornell-Mayo’s “Omniexpress” mobile POS app for the iPod at two Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH stores. The pilot is underway at stores in Woodbury Commons, NY and Bergen, NJ, with four iPods in each store. Saks plans to pilot the Omniexpress mobile POS application for the iPod in their Saks Fifth Avenue stores later this month as well as begin the rollout to additional OFF 5TH and Saks Fifth Avenue stores in Spring 2012. The mobile POS solution includes remote wireless printing using two Epson printers, the TM-P60 (Mobilink) and the TM-T88V.

Ariba Network Partners to Expand

Ariba announced that it is joining forces with Thomas Industrial Network to connect more buyers and sellers around more commerce in the fast-growing category of industrial MRO. Under the terms of a newly-formed partnership, Thomas Industrial Network (ThomasNet.com), an online division of Thomas Publishing Company that provides procurement professionals, engineers, and plant and facilities management with access to the detailed information needed to make purchasing or specifying decisions, will offer services to enable the more than 650,000 suppliers that it currently supports to do business on the Ariba® Network. Ariba, in turn, will automatically match the capabilities of Thomas’ suppliers to the requirements of Ariba buyers and provide a common platform through which they can connect and transact business.

NCR Unveils Cloud-Based POS at NRF 2012

NCR Corporation unveiled the first cloud-based POS software platform that enables independent retailers to manage transactions, track sales and inventory, process credit cards and market to customers on both POS touchscreen terminals and Apple mobile devices. Widely available early spring, retailers will be able to download the application directly from Apple iTunes to an iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone, or leverage a pre-configured NCR POS terminal. An optional integrated barcode scanner and a magnetic stripe reader that enables secure, integrated credit card processing with end-to-end encryption can also be added to the Apple device.
