Heartland Payment Systems Campus Solutions division and Bridgeway Solutions have been chosen as one of South Carolina’s preferred system providers for rapid, electronic disbursement of financial aid refunds and payments to students. This lets South Carolina state colleges and universities to contract with Heartland Payment Systems’ partner Bridgeway for Heartland’s “Acceluraid” efinancial aid disbursement product without having to issue a request for proposal as is traditionally required by the state. With this, students get a school-branded Discover prepaid debit card that is issued by Oklahoma-based Central National Bank.

First Financial Bank of Arkansas implemented “ConvergeIT: IVR” (Interactive Voice Response) from Fiserv. Offering a flexible, interactive voice response system with choice and control for messaging, call flow and functionality, “ConvergeIT: IVR” solution interfaces directly with “Signature” from Fiserv and can scale to handle thousands of calls per day. Also, First Financial Bank was able to automate a substantial percentage of its communications following its implementation of “ConvergeIT: IVR,” which offers reporting functionality provide the necessary tools for First Financial Bank to properly track: daily call volume, inactive and dropped calls, how effectively the customers are using the IVR system and other real-time information.

Crédit Agricole Selects Gemalto for Contactless EMV Deployment

Gemalto is behind Crédit Agricole’s large-scale deployment of contactless EMV banking cards in France. The Crédit Agricole group is market leader in full-service retail banking in France and one of the largest banks in Europe. Gemalto is the first to market the highly secure Optelio contactless EMV banking card certified by GIE-CB (“Groupement d’Intérêt Economique – Carte Bancaire”) with optimized EMV risk management features for the French market. The deployment opens the door to the world of contactless payment for all of Crédit Agricole’s customers. Cardholders can enjoy a new payment experience by simply waving or tapping their card in front of a contactless reader at the point-of-sale for purchases under 20 euros, while transactions above that amount will require a PIN confirmation.

GE Capital Retail Bank announced a definitive multi-year agreement to provide the consumer credit card program in the United States and Puerto Rico for Toys”R”Us. GE Capital’s Retail Finance business, the operating entity that provides financial solutions to retailers to help grow their customer sales, will manage the Toys”R”Us relationship and service the account. J.P. Morgan Launches eBank Management Utility Pilot

J.P. Morgan Treasury Services cash management, trade finance and treasury solutions completed its Electronic Bank Management (eBAM) central utility pilot (E-CU). Successfully implemented with MetLife, Fujitsu, and SWIFT Treasury, the E-CU successfully addressed the risk of different interpretation and usage of eBAM messaging standards and what information is needed for eBAM instructions per country and per bank. The E-CU pilot created a single multibank platform for multinational companies and correspondent banks to manage their bank accounts electronically, capitalizing on industry standards for eBAM. Key features of the E-CU include digital signing using the SWIFT 3SKey digitally interoperable security solution and multichannel access to accommodate various infrastructure needs.

KDDI to Ship NFC Phones

KDDI will begin unrolling mobile NFC (Type A/B) services from late January 2012. Mobile phones equipped with mobile NFC services (referred to below as “NFC mobile phones”) will allow users to use an array of specialized functions, including a “card function” that enables payment services like electronic money and credit as well as electronic coupons and electronic membership cards all on a mobile phone platform, a “reader function” that enables information reading by sweeping an NFC mobile phone over a poster that contains an NFC tag, and a “peer to peer function” that enables information exchange between NFC mobile phones or by sweeping an NFC mobile phone over an NFC compatible device.

EBA Clearing Posts 78% Increase in Sepa Transfers

EBA CLEARING announced that its STEP2 SEPA Credit Transfer Service witnessed a 78 percent volume increase over the past 12 months. In December 2011, STEP2 SCT handled on average over 2.4 million transactions per day. Since the launch of the SCT Scheme on 28th January 2008, EBA CLEARING’s PE-ACH platform has been playing a leading role in facilitating the European banks’ migration to SEPA: STEP2 SCT currently processes more than a third of the SEPA Credit Transfers channelled via ACH infrastructures. Close to 120,000 transactions were processed on average per day, which is six times more than during the previous month.
